We were talking at half time on Tuesday and wondering when we were last four goals ahead at half time, anyone know?

Also with Tovide on a hat-trick, which he ultimately didn't get, who was the last player to score a hat-trick in the league for the U's? My guess was our old favourite Jevani Brown.

Tuesday was our third clean sheet in a row in the league. The last time we achieved that was under Ben Garner at the end of the 2022/23 season. Oddly it involved the same three results (0-1, 0-0 and 4-0) but in a different order (4-0, 0-1 and 0-0). I'm struggling to find a time when we managed four clean sheets in a row but surely it must've happened at some point. It's also six clean sheets for the season now, one better than last season already.

I am going way back in time.

Around 1965 a Colchester United debutant scored a hat trick of headers at the clock end at Layer Road as the U's raced into a four nil half time lead.

Ted Philips scored the three with the other goal coming from Barry Aitchison.

Without checking the opposition may have been Barnsley and l think the final score was 4 - 1.

Good to see Tovide score twice ( in front of several scouts and Manager's in The Championship ).

I missed the match on Tuesday, didn't know the score until 10pm.

I have never seen Swindon Town in 92nd place in the league!

They are a big club and the owner will be very concerned.

I expected Colchester United to at least hit the play off's this season so let's hope we have finally turned something of a corner.

We beat Stevenage 4-0 and scored them all before half time in April 2017 maybe that was the last time.

Think that was the last time, and Stevenage scored two of them.

On the clean sheet point, as far as I can tell (across all competitions), the last time we achieved 4 clean sheets in a row was when we beat Posh 1-0 at Layer Road back in February 1998. This followed games against Mansfield (2-0 home), Exeter (1-0 away) and Shrewsbury Town (2-0 away). We went on to make it 5 clean sheets in a row, drawing 0-0 with Rochdale at Layer Rd.

Our record is six (twice) and not surprisingly you have to go back to Big Roy's tenure in the 1991/92 Conference for both, October and November 91 and Feb to April 92.

From the Col U data website:

Hat-tricks for Colchester United:
Football League Trophy
Tuesday, 10 November 2020 at home vs Southend United (6 - 1)
Jevani Brown x3 (other scorers Folivi, Chilvers, Poku).

League 2
Tuesday, 3 November 2020 at home vs Stevenage (3 - 1)
Jevani Brown x3

League 2
Saturday, 7 January 2017 at home vs Carlisle United (4-1)
Kurtis Guthrie x3 (other scorers Porter).

then it goes back to Cureton away at Southend and at home to Derby in the Championship.

Halford and Rowan Vine in the FA Cup vs Rushden & Diamonds and Coventry City in 2004. They sandwich a hattrick from Craig Fagan against Notts County in a 4-1 win at home!

I'm sure I saw Sammie Szmodics walk off with the match ball once - but maybe an own goal chalked it off officially!
