Much talk about this pre season.

It appears the average is over 1000 down on last season so far.

Attendance figures are useful on the surface, but clubs all over the country mess around with them so they aren't particularly reliable to outsiders.

For example, being at the ground on Tuesday, its fairly obvious to me that club reported the amount of tickets sold rather than the actual attendance figure.

Was actually discussing this with my mate, we thought there’s no way there’s 16k there. But when we thought about it the west, east and south stands were pretty full and also the corners of the north stand, so 16k is probably pretty close to the money. Remember when we were in league 1 and getting around 12-14k the corners were always empty.

How on earth can anyone say crowds are down when only two homes games have been played.

Blackburn & Millwall both had poor followings.

Not so obvious, myself and my son were talking about it and I siad I reckoned about 16k. The North end holds about 3k, Millwall only fetched a few hundred but there weren't massive gaps all over the home ends apart from the usual one in the West where the players sit.

All things considered, including last season, the cost of living crisis and yes all the bad weather, I think the crowds held up really well.

Now this game last Tuesday, I thought the atmosphere was pretty good for large parts of the game. We'll sing on our own, and we did. It's fair enough to criticise where it's due but the game was entertaining if a disappointing end and the crowd of over 16k made some noise, some people really are desperate to criticise.

Dr P, these "many people" well yes, it's a long way from Australia, obviously they wouldn't go.
Personally, when I walked in the pub I saw many people I know who did go.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

You would love it to be shut down, it doesn’t play into your ostrich narrative to avoid accountability.

Sadly it’s going nowhere, attendances are down and apathy is up.

It is only 2 home games into the new season but our home attendances are not down on last season.

Season 2021/22
Sheffield Utd 15,946
Stoke 15,927

Season 2022/23
Blackburn 16,632
Millwall 16,068

How attendances will pan out for the rest of the season who knows. But considering we supposedly sold less season tickets this year, the support for the club/manager/team is quite remarkable. Congratulations to all supporters who actually support the club financially and vocally. As opposed to those who claim to support the club, but actually only follow them. One thing I have noticed the last 18 months or so there seems to be many more supporters in the 18-25 age bracket. The long term future for Swansea City is bright, irrespective to what a few insignificantes say.

Yep they are down.

What you are saying is you think they may go up. We will see.

But as it stands we are 1000+ down on last seasons league average.

My god that is ridiculous even for you. You take this seasons 2 game average against the average for the whole of last season, when it has already been pointed out to you that attendances increased further into last season. This is a classic example of you trying to manipulate stats to suit your agenda. This is the reason I and many others rarely waste my time corresponding with you. You really are quite embarrassing.

You rarely respond to me because you know you simply cannot argue against what I say.

Why can’t I take the average so far and track it compared to last seasons average?

Because you don’t like the result?

Absolutely nothing has been manipulated at all. Last seasons average was 17,376 and this season it’s 16,350. There is literally nothing to argue with there.

You could say you think it will increase from this point, we shall see on that - but currently we are over 1000 down on last seasons average.

These aren’t opinions, these are facts.

Don't think it is fair to talk about averages on such a small number of games but let's say you're right, could that not be down to the cost of living crisis ? Inflation rapidly going out of control. fuel prices massively up on last year. People have priorities.

I don’t see why it isn’t fair, seems perfectly reasonable to me. Happy to keep adding to the average every game, but it’s an entirely fair benchmark to compare to.

I’d be stunned if 1000 people out of 17,000 were so affected by 35p a litre increases in fuel costs that they could no longer go to watch local football.

If we had got promoted last season, tickets would have sold out. People find the money when the football is worth watching.

With all due respect, gas and electricity prices are sky rocketing, people are really struggling, it’s not just petrol. If someone is in the breadline, the increase in fuel alone May prevent them from running a car and getting to work

I just don’t see that affecting 1000 people out of 17,000.

There are always costs soaring in some sector, as I said, if we were in the Premier League the stadium would be sold out.

People will find the money if they football is worth it. Whether it’s the original people or indeed others who would take their place.

That last sentence is so right.
Watching your team is a priority and an obsession for many.
Many areas of deprivation have a very loyal fan base no matter what.

If the product is good, they will attend. Money well spent
If it's not, they won't as then it will be seen to be money wasted

Can't agree, We will have people making a choice between heating their homes and feeding their children. Spending £30 to watch football is not a priority. Lads I knew from back home are desperately struggling
