I was at QPR on Thursday, popping into both the club shop and box office. Mask wearing and distancing among staff was conspicuous by its absence.
Seeing as the off-field staff are likely to have more contact with players and those who come into contact with the players, you’d think these simple measures would be applied.
Utter joke!

Definition of conspiracy theory does change. This Vice article from Feb 2020 calls a conspiracy theory that forced vaccination and vaccine passports would come.
But it's not about it being a conspiracy theory at all. But instead it's a state of mass formation a psychological illness induced by the conditions. Certainly for 95% of people going along with it.
Mass formation comes about
- People feeling socially isolated / lack of social bond - people feeling their life is meaningless (50% of adults it's been suggested feel their job is meaningless as one example) - free floating anxiety and psychological discontent. E.g. if your in a room with a lion you know what you're anxious about
If under these conditions a narrative /story is presented by the mass media that pushes an object of anxiety is presented by the mass media and at the same time providing a strategy to deal with this object of anxiety. People attach their anxiety to the threat and enthusiastically agree to follow the strategy presented. People suddenly then feel connected in a heroic struggle with the object of anxiety. And that's the reason why people are willing to buy into the strategy and follow the narrative even if it is utterly absurd... e.g. vacinting kids or policemen walking round a German market with distance measuring sticks so those people can then cram onto a bus or train together later...
So in conclusion their are psychologists out there saying that can explain what people like Warburton saying what he has about vaccines for young healthy people facing a weakening virus (even though there are footballers collapsing on a weekly basis) because he is suffering from a sort of psychosis
It's not about everyone going along with it because of some conspiracy theory. It's a human reaction from scared and anxious people
But it can lead for a short time to Totalitarianism and historically that has led to Witch burning, gulags etc. A danger we go that way for the unvaccinated
It's human nature. Perhaps it's being manipulated or was introduced for that reason perhaps it isn't. But hopefully more and more people see videos like this and realise things are getting sillier as fortunately the virus gets milder
But watch this in the context of mass formation and honestly say it's sensible:
If you can show me some evidence for someone in their 20’s with a low BMI and no existing illnesses should be coerced into having a vaccine in response to Omnicron which is a very mild illness for all but the most at risk
[Post edited 14 Dec 2021 16:00]
Can you show where Omicron is a "very mild illness", and not just milder by an unknown amount than Delta?

A gentle, exasperated, sort of reminder that this is a football message board, with a QPR bent. We've deleted the political threads for a while, and my God am I seeing why. I'm not spending whatever bleak Christmas I have left sifting through this batshit mental stuff.
We had a thread about the Lib Dems yesterday. Oooooh maybe I'll let this run, see how it goes... oh, page one, horrendously fcking libellous comment. It's me that ends up in court with this sht btw, as happened to the Sheff Wed forum editors, being hauled over the coals with people trying and extract the contact details the posters registered with.
There are loads of other places for you to talk politics, covid, conspiracy.... Twitter, Facebook, Daily Mail, YouTube. They've built billion dollar businesses around it - go and play there. Go and play there. Please. Why does it need to be here?
There are even other QPR message boards that I'm sure would be glad to receive your vitally important hot takes. "I've tried with multiple accounts here but not met with the reception I cared for, so here I am trying with another account..." "I tried a mental thread late one night but it got deleted, now here I am with 4,000 words in which I'll only mention I don't like the moderation of the forum half a dozen times". It's so easy guys. It's a football forum. If you don't like how I run it, here are some others. Go elsewhere.
I'm not hosting this bullsht. I'm not. I'd rather close it. I'd rather close it.
Do what ever you feel you need to do, Northern. Your well being, this forum and all the features of this site are far to valuable to a lot of QPR fans, like me, to risk losing it because of some political debate.

As for trying to protect posters by not giving over the contact details. I personally wouldn't bother and hereby give my permission for mine to be handed over to the authorities.
This sort of protection is meant to protect whistle-blowers and protect journalistic sources, not internet trolls. I don't think any of us on here are realistically claiming to be genuine sources of information otherwise unavailable to the public and are therefore acting in the public general interest and need protecting. I think a lot of the abuse and misuse seen on social media would disappear if people could be easily be traced.

You said 'the science is still out on whether they (boosters) are necessary'.
At best that's very misleading and at worst plain wrong. Boosters reduce the chance of getting covid, very considerably so if it's omicron, and continue to reduce the chance of serious illness. The more people get boosters the more this latest wave will be mitigated.
With respect to Clive I won't be adding any more Covid posts to this site but in this thread I've been told that I am just plain wrong for saying that "the science is still out on whether they (boosters) are necessary". So just to set the record straight, I'll leave these here:
"Current evidence does not, therefore, appear to show a need for boosting in the general population, in which efficacy against severe disease remains high".
"although longer-term studies will still be needed. Nevertheless, right now there isn’t strong evidence that people’s immunity needs topping up with a booster."
That's all folks.

That’s an old article based on Delta not Age of Ultron, or whatever it’s called.

Yep, as RT says above, both old pieces that pre-date omicron. QED.
This is from the BMJ and would suggest that boosters are important at least for those people over 60. They definitely heighten the immune response in most people.
The jury is out as to how severe the Omicron strain is in comparison with other strains. If you're in any of the high risk categories, however, it seems like a no brainer to get the booster.

I was listening to R4 this morning and the general guidance was that Omicron symptoms seem to be mild amongst the young and double/triple jabbed.
The risk, as ever, is to the vulnerable. I'm waiting to see if my Christmas plans will be cancelled as my FIL is firmly in that category and my wife's waiting for her PCR result after having (another) positive lateral flow test yesterday.

Had my Booster today, they gave me the Moderna one, had the Astra Zenica for the previous two.
Had the same combination. I felt a bit rough for a day or two after - nothing major - but I had the flu jab at the same time so could have been that (never had it before). All fine since.

Great news. The Pfizer plant is only down the road from me, folks. I've got you all covered. Freebies.
Does look good BrianM, but reading the article it is a cure rather than prevention, I am not the brightest bulb on the tree so maybe not reading it right, jabs still to me the first line of defence.

I'm no expert either, but that's the way I read it too.
It's great news for those who contact COVID, though.

I had the same combo, without the flu jab, and felt very 'fluey'. Aching and shivering that night, very weak and anaemic. Bit ropey the next day. Alright since.

Thing is, "cure rather than prevention" would be a huge step forward. Or rather, "cure as well as prevention."
I know generally the other way round is better, but it looks like Covid mutates so often that it's going to be like the common cold. yes, vaccines are going to be the first line of defence but don't look like they are going to eliminate the thing like they did with smallpox.
If we want to get to a point where we can live without fear then. combination of vaccines to limit the numbers and a pill you can take if you get it bad is a big help.
I'm thinking of a bloke I know of who died of Covid a couple of months back, in his 50s with no underlying conditions and double-jabbed. If this pill had been available maybe he'd still be alive.

Can someone tell me the benefits of showing a Covid Passport!
You can still get Covid and pass it on with or without the vaccine so surely it would be better if you had to show a negative lateral flow test to get into events?

the negative test does make more sense to me but I think the theory is if you've had the vaccine you are less likely to have the virus and pass it on. It's along the same lines of you can go to the pub but only if you order food.

Some countries, including Japan, are doing quite well with Ivermectin, which, being off patent, will be considerably cheaper then pfizer's offering.
