Robbie Stockdale ? on 15:02 - Jul 9 with 7644 views | Crede_Sign0 | Must be something in it at 1/10…. Worryingly feels a bit Steve Eyre to me. With so much in flux at the moment - is now really the time for a perhaps brave/speculative appointment - giving an untried no.2 his chance? He must be on a few a quid - so can’t be about cash. I personally had hoped for someone that knows the league. 1/2 dozen 16 yo Albion loanees here we come.

Eyre coached kids teams, while Stockdale has worked with first teams and U21-U23s, including Sunderland when we played them in the Checkatrade. He also had a significant playing career in the top two divisions, primarily with Middlesbrough. While it's clearly just speculation at the moment, he has a very different background and level of experience to Eyre. If someone called loveboro starts posting, then there might be something in it...

Spot on. Big, big difference between the two. If he can start by placing more importance on winning matches than playing pretty, he'll do for me.

I’m all for winning games. I asked a close friend who follows WBA what he knows about him - Not much was the response, but he's very much an Allardyce disciple. Maybe that’s exactly what we need in L2, and maybe it’s what we are getting. Still too much of a speculative punt for me.

A mate of mine is a Sunderland fan/sports journalist. He said Stockdale is a good coach but a rubbish manager. Sounds a bit BBM in that regard. From what I can tell he's had a similar path to BBM. Big influence in developing successful academy players and has caught the eye of managers higher up the chain because of it.

Robbie Stockdale ? on 16:42 - Jul 9 with 6947 views | AllBlueDale | I'd have liked tried and trusted at this stage. I see he has been caretaker manager of Sunderland a few times as well. Not knocking the new board but what football people have we got who will be behind this appointment. Who is doing due diligence and sounding out 'contacts' etc Feels a risk that could go either way.....

How can they possibly know he's a rubbish manager? He's taken charge of 7 games over four different spells as a caretaker at 2 different clubs. And he's won 4 of them.

Of course it could go either way as it could with an experienced manager but let's at least welcome this appointment. There will be negativity in the future, and plenty of it, once results start to go against us. In the meantime let's get behind Robbie.
Robbie Stockdale ? on 17:29 - Jul 9 with 6561 views | electricblue | Shock out of the blue but Dale need a manager and maybe Stockdale is the man Dale need..... New face, fresh ideas. I will hold my judgement on this and see how it unfolds..... Any idea what his contract length is! 1yr rolling or a 2yr deal... Starts on saturday i hope with the Luton friendly.......

You’re right that they can’t know that. But is a 7 game manager the right appointment for a listing ship, and a club facing so much change on and off the field? Maybe - let’s hope so, I hope so - Or perhaps his name has only come into the fray because of all the talk and google searches about Rochdale and shares!

Alan Buckley was tried and trusted... Anyway, we could be playing Barrow and Sutton with a manager whose name contains Dale...

Robbie Stockdale ? on 18:26 - Jul 9 with 6159 views | 1907 | When has a tried and trusted manager ever actually worked for us in modern times, other than John Hollins? The greatest success this club has achieved has come as a direct result of promoting hungry, young managers looking to cut their teeth in the game. Parkin (1st time around), Hill & BBM (on the basis of cup runs & surviving in League One twice). It’s not a perfect method (Simpson & Eyre) but when you think of some of the other more recent “tried & trusted managers (Buckley, Parkin second time around, Coleman, Barrow). Out of the names put forward so far Stockdale is the first that I feel positive about.
Robbie Stockdale ? on 18:28 - Jul 9 with 6145 views | kel | Every single managerial appointment at every single club in the world will divide opinion. That’s football. Personally, I’ll get behind him (if it is indeed him) until something happens that changes my mind like I would any player, staff member or anyone else connected with the club.
