What’s the point of them? The film starts, has a story, moves along then next thing people are jumping about, singing, dancing, doing all sorts. Then stop and back to the story, which is normally cobblers.
Gave up on La bloody La Land after they all started dancing on top of their cars at the start.
It’s either one or the other. Music or film. Paint Your Wagon wasted Clint and Lee Marvin. They could have made a Point Blank/Dirty Harry type thing and ended up talking to trees under wandrin stars. Flip a duck.
I got dragged along to a song along The Sound of Music once with the Mrs and my mate and his Mrs. We were the only blokes there.
No musical has ever been any good. And that’s a fact.
Only musicals i enjoyed at the time when i saw them in the west end and i'm showing my age with a couple of them... Jesus Christ Superstar Guys and Dolls
Jesus Christ Superstar (originally released as an album before becoming a musical) is fantastic. Les Mis Hamilton pretty damn good too
Not really a musical but Didn’t Michael Nyman write a piece of music dedicated to the R’s? They should do a musical based on the Flavio and Bernie era. Italianesque. Gigidicanio, Bernie and Flavio would be a great opening number.

and since having kids.. School of Rock matilda
Avoid them like the plague otherwise.
Another vote for Book of Mormon.
The people who did the music for Frozen and the creators of South Park turn out to be great self admirers. They get together and something truly beautiful was born*.
* Beautiful in this case being a profanity filled, filth filled and outrageous piece of entertainment that should have Disney running to their lawyers.
Absolutely brilliant. I guarantee you will think differently of Hakuna Matata once you have heard Hasa Diga Eebowai. Be warned that this track is definitely not safe for work!!!
Blues Brothers. Brilliant. Corney but brilliant. Guilty pleasure. West Side Story. Very dated, but love it. Talk of a remake. Hell No!! Also like a lot of those song and dance routines involving Gene Kelly. Super timing and choreography.
I draw the line firmly by anything from the pen of Lloyd Webber or Mr Rice.

that song is hilarious, well every second of that show is hilarious
Completely forgot the only musicals I ever happily paid to see: The Book of Mormon The Producers Both fantastic. Neither in schools yet, unfortunately.
I have to admit going to see Grease at Streatham Odeon when it came out in the late 70s was a very entertaining experience as all the girls in the audience knew the songs and sang along full blast.
