If you are looking for something a little classy the Park Hotel in Liedersplien is fashionable and in a good location.

Hotel Okura, stayed there many years ago but I believe it’s still a 5 star hotel.
Had a pool and spa and was close to Amsterdam central.
Check out Trip Advisor for its recent reviews to see if it is still any good?

swissotel is bang on Dam Square and is/was decent quality without paying a premium price, doesnt have the spa facilities of some of the 5 star hotels but how much time are you going to spend in the hotel during the day. Its the best location in the city IMHO 10 minute stroll or a couple of mins in a taxi from the station

The ones with the red light in the window are usually fun, bit pricey but.

Sorry, mersey. I;ve only been twice - once with a girlfriend and that hotel was boring and once with the lads and I can't remember where we stayed!

Get on AirBnb or booking.com - Accomodation in Dam is notoriously expensive. Im out there in Feb and have a hotel just outside of town and its only 5 mins on the train. Still cost a fair few quid though!

I live in Amsterdam. Depends very much on your budget. City center is relatively small, so no matter where you are, you won't have to travel/walk long to get anywhere. Specific areas you want to avoid or be at? You want to be in the thick of things, or prefer a bit more quiet area? How posh you want to go?

Where I can be of much bigger help, is places to eat at!

Stayed there a few years ago , found an all inclusive hotel about ten mins from dam square , will try and remember the name and post it up tomorrow , free bar was decent and they put hot snacks on early evening in the bar for some reason

Stayed at this place during a 3/4 day break last year, as part of a Eurostar package

Strayed at the art'hotel with Mrs P, lovely place and well handy for the station (couple of minutes walk) and the city centre (5-10 minutes)

I was there last year in a big group for my Mrs 40th.

As there were 24 of us with varying budgets we looked outside a little bit to keeop cost down otherwise some would not have been able to afford the trip at City Centre prices.

Stayed at this place

Highly recommend the hotel. Yes it was about 15 mins out from the centre but we pretty much went out all day, headed back there in the evening to freshen up, met in bar and hit the nightlife.

Was really reasonably priced as well.

PS The weekend train ticket from the airport was great value
