Why can't we go for Chester from Villa instead?
Surely he's older with little sale value and all. But They want 10 m for him. Stoke are trying to low ball them with 6-7 m offers. Maybe we should swoop in instead if we're really willing to throw such sum on a CB. |  |

Aside from the fact he might not suit us or our manager might not want him, he’s 29. The way we usually operate is pickup up players with resale value. Chester has been available for a while and no bigger clubs want him. McKenna is only 21. If he becomes another Mawson then we could potentially sell him on for 20m+ in a year or two. |  |

IF he becomes another Mawson..well that's a long shot. How many "promising" young players are out there? How many of them really make it into good players?

What exactly worries you about this transfer link? If it’s the £10m price tag then I would imagine there is no way we would be paying that sort of fee on any one player season. It is highly likely that if we were to move for him and we managed to get him, it would be at least half that figure with add-ons. If we go back up and pay the add-ons then who cares?
This season we need to considerably lower our wage bill. Aberdeen players will be on about 3k a week. I imagine James Chester is on about 30k.
