I’ve been pretty non plussed about the Copa Mundial this year which is unusual as I’ve always loved it. Perhaps FIFA have contributed to my overall “fcuk it” view to the modern game, I’ve never felt so remote from a tournament Inger-Lund have been in. Part of me hopes it lives up to the scam it is with Russia being awarded 317 penalties in the group stages, empty stadiums with Escape To Victory dubbed crowd cheering noises all capped off with a plucky squad of kids winning it so rhino nose becomes Sir Gareth
Current questions for those buzzing about it or who simply know:-
1. Any good Apps for iPhone anyone come across? (Preferably free)
2. Can anyone recommend a Fantasy Competition for the tournament? I’ve been asked to run one at work; think the Sun used to do a simple one; no idea if they are as I haven’t bought a newspaper this decade.
3. Any players people recommend sticking in above / hidden jems????
4. What fixtures do we think are ones to make an effort to watch out of the current group stages? May have to organise work schedule and ensure a regular spot in The Leicester Arms on Warwick Street for any midweek afternoon games
5. What nation picks up the Jules Rimet this year for you? I’m thinking probably Germany but the last time they tried to conquer all the Russia issue didn’t work out well for them
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Benny,
I have no idea of his sexuality, I certainly didn't mention it, I never would have thought of it, and I have no interest in it. My comments about him are purely of the sporting nature I swear to you. Or, to be precise, his unsporting nature. I have no kids, but I have godkids, nieces and nephews and while I teach them to play hard and hearty I teach them to play fair. I have never used Cristiano Ronaldo as an example.

This is turning into an terrific World Cup.
I'm getting a bit nervous that England are going to stink it up and either produce a 0-0 bore-draw or a feeble defeat to Tunisia.
Come on lads, just go out and express yourselves.
Saying on the radio this morning, it's amazing we've had no 0-0s so far...
Looking back our record against African teams is actually not that great, OK we beat Tunisia in 98 but we've drawn against Morocco and Nigeria in the past as well. Only just squeaked past Cameroon in 90.
Anyway really interesting games so far, the big guns haven't fired yet and I've been really impressed with Peru and Mexico.
I came back from a mini break in Barcelona last year. Got to the airport early and looking in the shop. Wanting a shirt (obviously not as good as the QPR one). Would not pay the prices though and one guy bought a Barcelona shirt with Neymar printed on it for 100 Euros. The next day Neymar signed for PSG. Worst ever investment like a QPR Zelic shirt :).

Nice sidestep
Diego Armando Maradona Franco
To answer your question, Maradona was disgraced at two World Cups - one for blatant cheating, the other for steroid abuse. An extraordinary footballer, second only to Messi in my lifetime I would say, but not someone I'd ever admire.

For what it's worth Tunisia are the highest FIFA ranked African team.

What do/would you say to them about Maradona

I don't imagine Maradona comes up in conversation much with anybody's kids; you have to be over 21 to have even been alive when he retired and you have to be not far short of 40 to be able to remember properly the '86 World Cup.

He should be an inspiration to all young footballers everywhere , he has managed to maximise his ability through hard work and dedication.
He's won nearly everything and is the best player in the world . If only Rooney had his dedication an determination

Is it true that we've only sold 2000 tickets for tonight's game?
about 3-4000 which is pretty poor for us
I think most will go out for the Belgium game as easiest to get to
Media haven't helped having a weekly theme that the Russians are this and that and everyone will get attacked which seems to have out a lot of people off

Gone daft as always 1-1 and the England players have legs of jelly when shooting inside the box, must have missed 3 or 4 now when it looked easier to score
