Brixton Academy Info 09:50 - Jun 28 with 4176 viewsW14Hoop

Not been to Brixton Academy for at least 10 yrs now.

Has anyone been in the upper area recently? Last time I was there, anytime we needed to jump with wild abandon the gestapo insisted we sit back down, is that still the case or are things a bit more relaxed?

Think I’ve missed out on tickets for standing area below ( Run The Jewels )

Depends on the gig, I've only ever had seating for Super Furry Animals, it was mostly deserted so we could do what we wanted.

If you didn't get standing for RTJ though I'd probably sack it off

Its hardly changed at all. So basically it depends on the gig. Avoid the Polish death metal bands as those are totally mental (they now hold the record for bar receipts, breaking Carter USM's long held record!)

Was there for Leftfield a few weeks back, which was nothing more than an over 40's disco but was a really nice relaxed atmosphere

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

I was there last year for James and people were standing in the upper tier.I started in the front row but went to the back towards the end as I needed to make a quick exit for my train.
I didn't see anyone telling the crowd to sit down. That only came from the stage.

If you're upstairs you can stand up in the back. It's an actual standing area. Behind the back row of seats.

Bar records you say?? I went to the Hammersmith Odeon about 5 years ago. I'm told by an authority from on here, that the Specials on the Friday broke bar records for a medium sized venue with £40k of alcohol sold. Then when I went the following night, Motörhead sold £42k. And that's not including Lemmys rider. Mind you it was about 34 degrees Celsius both nights.

Went to a gig there few months back but only ever do standing, I personally wouldn't go if it was sitting...

I am also going to that Run The Jewels gig and they have announced another date if that helps. Otherwise wait and set up an alert on Twickets - I have had some go up this morning already and there will def be some at some point between now and then.

Let me know how you get on

Brixton Academy? Another victim of the drive to privatise education! Am I right comrades?

Ah, the good old Academy...

Fond memories, lived two minute's walk from it when I first came to live in London in the '80's.

The Billy Ocean video for "When the going gets tough" featuring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny De Vito was shot on the Academy stage...

As regards the question, I think you still might be at risk from the seating gestapo.

I was at that Specials gig. Feel very proud to have my own contribution to a world record

Carter USM! Were you there for the ULU riot when EMF came on as the support slot, and were promptly bottled off? I've never seen a lace turn to all out riot so quickly.

Spoke to Jimbob at one of Attillas gigs in Brighton and he said he was amazed they survived 3 songs before retreating off stage. Utter carnage.

Was there a few weeks ago for leftfield and the first set of rows upstairs were meant to be seating only & they do try and police it.

They may have given up in the end but we're being pretty strict. If you go back about 8 rows, beyond the first block it was ok.

Saw loads of bands there. Worst sound of any of the major London venues. At least back in the 90s. Last gig there was Orbital some time in the last ten years. Still sounded shite.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.
