Pitch 18:42 - Mar 25 with 2906 viewshxdale

Think the pitch, is looking the worst it's been in along time.

There's a square of new turf been inserted at the edge of the centre circle, Pearl St side, about 6 x 6 ft too. Not noticed any problem with that area before but at one point a huge divot was taken out following a tackle.

It's still playing pretty well though. Illustrated by Allen's goal where he was sure of the roll of the ball.

I think it plays better than it looks.

At least, now we own the ground, we can dictate what repairs are done, and when.

And I know we'll have to foot 100% of the bill, but what's new there?

I actually thought it looked really well and the watering just before KO shows how dry and flat it was......we are over the worst now and grass will start showing for the run-in.

Edit: Looking from the Sandy.

" I've been here a long time and I've never seen damage caused to the pitch by rugby being played on it - damage to the pitch is caused by the collapse of drains ". Mm, I wonder who was being quoted in todays Observer.

Even someone as biased as you can appreciate extra games on the pitch causes extra wear regardless of sport?
It speaks volumes about someone who bothers reading the Ob to be fair

Enlighten us all then as you appear to be the only one bothered about reading it?

Funny then, that when that excuse about the drains had been used for years, work was undertaken to repair them.

When they started digging, they discovered there were no drains.

So what WAS the reason ?

It won't be a problem for the rugby team as apparently they don't come in contact with the grass all game nor foot the bill, happy days

Agree about the pitch, it's in a terrible state when viewed from up high, not from the Sandy Lane. It's the worst I've seen it at this stage of the season in years. The turfed area near the centre circle caused concern to the referee and actually looked dangerous. It was like a rolled up carpet.

I know we had some rain over the winter but the pitch just seems to have disintegrated and over the last couple of years it's had a lot of money spent on it. It's like we've gone back in time when it comes to the state of the pitch.

There's only one person who's mentioned egg-chasing on this thread.

Is it any wonder some of us are still sceptical about 'new Hornets'?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

What's the incentive to try and work out the point in the post?

The drains haven't collapsed since the last time Dale played on it v bury?
The pitch looked a lot worse today than a fortnight ago.
Has anyone had a game on it since then?

Yeah, you're right in this instance. Please accept apology. In my defence my sciatica has been giving me some real grief and it makes me a grumpy, argumentative old bugger.
