I'm surprised he accepted a rolling deal, but he obviously backs himself!

Protects us from a big payoff if it goes wrong, but if it goes spectacularly he can be easily poached (wouldn't that be a strange turn up for the books!).

I go with that being one of two things:

a.we have started to learn the lesson of signing managers on better contract terms than previously.
b. JFH might have actually asked for this arrangement, given perhaps his own long term ambition might not necessarily stop at managing QPR (just saying).

The other thing is that we have little idea what the terms were for Ramsay's contract. So it might well have been 3 years, but with different performance targets, severance points and bonus arrangements worked in. It would certainly have been a fraction of the cost of RedKrap. It may be cheaper and beneficial to all parties concerned for Ramsay to return on a coaching arrangement in some form than to pay a severance deal (possibly a key consideration given FFP rumblings).

Also JFH's contract will be a considerable salary improvement on what he was alledged to have been earning at Burton, even if only equated to what Ramsay was on. Basically we have no idea of the detail or the reasoning. All we do know is that both parties were content enough with the arrangement to sign contracts.

Never knowingly understood

Possible that JFH asked for or was happy with a rolling contract.

I remember Stuart Pearce always preferred one, and I always thought that they made sense. Continuity and mutual protection all in one.

3 year contract for Ramsey was madness. Can just imagine our team of crack negotiators going in and thrasing that one out. And now we have a manager who's genuine hot property we leave ourselves open to him getting poached..

Depends what the buy-out is. A 5-yesr contract could have a buyout of one year. This contract could have buyout of one-year.

Got to love/hate the spin

QPR’s director of football, Les Ferdinand, added: “We went through a very meticulous recruitment process that generated a lot of excellent candidates. We gave ourselves a real selection headache with the high level of candidates we spoke to, but Jimmy was the best of the best, without any doubt.”

High level , like who ? he though CR was the man

What does a rolling contract actually mean?

If he does well can he just leave us for a bigger club at the drop of a hat and without compensation?

Players in for training the day after a match!!! Wonder how that will go down???

I believe it is routine for players to have a light session the day after a match in the same way that they have sessions on the morning of an evening match.

Not embarrassed in the slightest. Our manager can't wait to get on with his job.

It just means there's no end date. It's self-renewing.

There will doubtless be a clause in it regarding his notice period, as there would be if he was on salary, but compensation will also be addressed. It could be one year's wages, two years', two months' or a lump sum, and it could differ depending on whether he is fired or leaves to join someone else. There really is no way for us to know how the contract is structured

What I like about rolling contracts is that players know that the manager is here for the long term, but that the club and manager are also protected should the relationship end.

Absolutely. It's a given these days, or should be. Vital that players recover with a light session of stretching, light cardio etc.

Are they not aloowed to learn from their mistakes then.
Perhaps you would prefer it if he had a three year contract?

Ah ok.

It pretty much shows that contract end dates are pretty much superficial in most cases anyway doesn't it?

Yes, definitely. I think they're a historical oddity in football.
