Financial Details Of Alcaraz Loan Deal Revealed
Wednesday, 31st Jan 2024 22:03

The full details of the deal that has taken Carlos Alcaraz to Juventus have been revealed and if it looks a good deal financially at least for Southampton.

footballitalia.net have confirmed the full financial details behind Charly Alcaraz's loan move to Juventus.

They say that it is €3.7m loan deal fee with €1.9m in add-ons attached, as well as €200,000 in additional costs. A €49.5m buy option was also included, payable across three financial years, with add-ons also included.

The option to buy is not an obligation, so both clubs could theoretically pull out and so could the player and to be fair if Juventus are willing to pay that much to buy him then we should perhaps snap their hands off.

Saints certainly talked in their official statement on the transfer, about him coming back to St Mary's next season a better player and resuming his career at Saints, so they do not expect Juventus to be buying him in the summer, at least not at that price.

Saints pressed for a higher loan fee in the agreement and appeared to have got it and could benefit to the tune of about £5 million if all the conditions are met.

They seemed to realise that Juve don't have the money to pay anything like Alcaraz's buy out clause so both clubs agreed pie in the sky figures for the buy out option.

On the face of it the deal looks very good for Saints but there are a lot of elements which are likely to mean that the headline 49m Euro transfer fee is not realised.

If Saints get promoted to the PL then it’s likely that Alcaraz returns to the club.

If Saints do not get promoted then if he plays well at Juve and they want him he will not want to return to play championship football next season. Juve will be in a strong position to renegotiate the transfer fee to something much lower.

If the player bombs at Juve then they will not want to make the move permanent and the player will be back, possibly worse off for the experience.

The only way I see the pre agreed amount being paid is if Alcaraz plays out of his skin during the loan period so Juve are keen to retain him AND Saints are promoted. Then Saints have a strong negotiating position to keep the price high IF they feel they can get better replacement for less money elsewhere.

I just can't see Juventus paying £45m at the end of the season. Agree that figure is just there so that everyone on both sides thinks this is a great deal. Probably better to have him playing at top level somewhere for now and reassess the position when we see how this season turns out. With all our loan players, both in and out, the squad could look very different next year without even buying or selling anyone.

Really can't see any downsides in this deal. I don't think there was much chance CA would get many starts in the 18 remaining games.
