Time To Sort Out Jack Cork's New Contract Sunday, 13th Jul 2014 10:51 Now Ronald Koeman has his feet under the table Saints need to get Jack Cork's signature on a new contract.
Jack Cork is the un sung hero of the Saints side, in 2012/13 he was second only to Morgan Schneiderlin in the player of the year vote, last season he was strangely frozen out by Mauricio Pochettino whose rigid team selections and tactics did not seem to let him think he could play both Cork and Schneiderlin in the same side, Cork was frozen out playing barely ten minutes of football in the opening four months of the season.
Injuries to Wanyama let him into the side and he never looked back despite the fact that Pochettino seemed determined to drop him whenever Wanyama approached fitness, by the latter stages of the season Cork was in great form again meaning that even Pochettino and his rigid ways could not leave him out and this was reflected in the player of the year voting with Cork again being in the top 3 and his replacement Wanyama nowhere.
The arrival of Ronald Koeman could be good for Cork, the Dutchman plays a much more flexible game and this could allow all three of Cork, Wanyama and Schneiderlin in the same side, rumours of course are saying that the Frenchman will leave for a not insubstancial fee, if he does then in Cork we already have his replacement at the club with the plethora of central midfielders we already have, that being the case I don't fear the loss of Schneiderlin, in fact perversely almost would welcome it, I feel we already have the quality in the centre of the park at the club and although yes you don't really want to lose arguably the best of that bunch, a big fee for Schneiderlin could help us really rebuild the squad, not just in first choice players but in getting in some good quality for the rest of the squad, something lacking under Pochettino.
So a major problem in my opinion that needs sorting is getting Jack Cork a new contract, get that done and that is almost as important as bringing in new men, the rebuilding is under way and it is looking that aside from a rebuild we will be much stronger as a squad overall, but let's not forget that we have to deal with issues at home as well.

Absolutely right. If he gets the game time he should, Corkie will be playing for England before the end of the season. He's way more comfortable on the ball than most of the squad that went to the World Cup. Can see where you're coming from re Spider but I think we'd miss him. If he goes it has to be for megabucks.

Agreed I would of paired Corky with the boy Shelvy from Swansea in England`s midfield as for Spider no way should we let him go,I think he genuinely loves the club and should be made Captain..we dont have enough time to find a suitable replacement for him.

Just so that I understand where you are coming from, Do you want Morgan to go or stay?

I agree that Cork should be offered new contract and that he should be in first 11, however, I do not agree about Morgan being sold. We have lost some good players in Luke, Adam and SRL, but losing Morgan would be one too many. He has been our most consistent performer for a few seasons for me.

Morgan needs to stay irrespective of the fee available for him but I agree Jack Cork should have a new contract as well as Fonte .

Cork should have gone to Brazil and played instead of that slug Gerrard.

It would be madness not to retain Cork and provide a new contract. Him and Steve Davis have been unsung diamonds in the team and Cork definitely deserves a place in the national side - mind you, if that happens Liverpool will probably try and wrestle him away.

Agree with most of this except your comments about Spider. Cork is exceptional but so is Morgan, would be very sorry to see him leave. As for that Liverpool trash, Rodgers, hands off Jay

I think all of our squad should start getting used to warming the bench as I can see a much bigger squad rotation under RoKo. In my mind this will be the best thing to happen to us. That is why I have so much respect for Cork, Davis, ward Prowse, they never think they should be playing, they just get on with whatever they are asked to do without complaint and do a brilliant job. I'm not a massive fan of Cork as I think he has limitations, but we would be massively foolish to lose him as he's the perfect squad player. My hope is that somehow Ramirez takes a chance to shine, give him a run, if he's not done the business in 6 months then time to get some money back.

To qualify my point, of course i would prefer Schneiderlin to stay, but I thought at the end of last season, if we could afford to lose one player for big money given that we already had replacements at the club then for me it was schneiderlin who was the most expendable. This doesnt mean I dont rate him etc it just means that I think we have strength in depth in his position

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Port Vale Polls |
