| Forum Reply | Are you a Yorkshire Daley? at 15:58 23 May 2020
I was born in Yorkshire before the war and lived near Hollingworth Lake for a while. My employment took me to Berkshire in the mid-sixties when supporting the Dale was limited to their fixtures at Reading’s Elm Park and Aldershot’s Recreation Ground. I always vowed to come back to Yorkshire on retirement which I did in 2001. Since then, I have crossed the Pennines to Spotland as a season-ticket holder. Both my sons are regular contributors to the message board |

If you want scenery, then you can do no better than the Settle to Carlisle line, followed by the run along the Cumbria coast down to Barrow. |

Some dispute as to whether the Guiseley player scored or whether it was an own goal. Either way, the game finished about 7/8 minutes before the York game so it was a nerve-jangling time for the many who waited behind, along with the Guiseley team. The Solihull keeper had clearly been taking lessons from the Millwall keeper in wasting time. Justice done in the end. |

I noticed with some pleasure the reference to Ironopolis, which later became the Middlesbrough FC we know today. My grandfather George Smart played in goals for the club for several years and I have a match report, culled from the internet, relating to an experimental evening match on February 6th. 1890 against the "Sheffield club". (apparently lit by "the erratic flaring of the nine lights"and in front of a 3000 crowd). Ironopolis won 10- 2 ,the reporter adding that "Smart once again demonstrating himself not inaptly named". Sadly, some years later, Grandad suffered a knee injury which became gangrenous and his leg had to be amputated. I would have loved to meet him but he died in 1934. |
| Forum Thread | How they do it in Yorkshire at 16:50 24 Apr 2015
Guiseley station has recently acquired several large colourful posters headed LEEDS UNITED, Real History, Real Future, Real Choice. It shows a back view of a Leeds team from the 1970's and a further heading "2015/2016 Season Tickets now available on line at www.leedsunited.com. I would imagine that many other stations in West Yorkshire have the same poster. Something our new marketing person could consider in the future? |

Too far to walk? I do it for most home games and it takes 25 minutes, so it can't be more than a mile and a half. |

Jamie's last UK club was Guiseley where he had a couple of successful seasons before leaving about December 2012 to take up a coaching role at a football academy in, I believe, Thailand. |

As Valley Parade is my nearest league ground, I can now go and watch JK when Dale are playing away. Thanks for your great contribution to the team, JK; I remember particularly your goal at Accrington. |

| Forum Thread | " Fielding saves the day...." at 09:46 13 Oct 2010
Under the headline " Fielding saves the day as Pearce's under 21's make the finals", today's Daily Telegraph reports on yesterday's draw against Romania which means England are in next year's finals. One sentence in particular caught my eye : "Fielding had an eventful afternoon, pulling off some fine reflex saves but showing an alarming tendency to rush off his line". NO CHANGE THERE THEN!! It sounds as though he is giving Stuart Pearce the same"heart in mouth" moments that he gave to the Spotland faithful in the not too distant past. |
