Totally agree. He hasn't been at the races for a long time (except of course, when he's at the races). Slow and frequently looks uninterested. If he does hold the ball and make a pass, he invariably stays in position admiring what he's just done and doesn't catch up with play. He'll score inside the six yard box and from the spot but rarely gets into the six yard box and how many penalties can we realistically expect? As for his injuries, I find it hard to believe he takes so long to recover from injuries that others shake off much quicker. Half a season with a dislocated shoulder and more than three months with a hamstring. Obviously I'm not in a position to say with certainty but he doesn't look like the type of player who busts a gut to get back. Gabbi and Ings could be a strong partnership - both quick and with good feet. |

We also seem to give very large allocations - I know there are regulations for this but how can Manure and Spuds get away with such minimal allocations when their grounds are so much bigger? 1800 last year at Old Trafford and 3,000 at Wembley, yet they had both the full whack at our place. |

If he is asked to explain his comments and provides video evidence, the only fair and correct conclusion the FA could possibly reach is that what he said was absolutely on the button. Rather than being punished, Hughes should be rewarded for raising what everyone could see but which no one is ever brave enough to call. |
| Forum Reply | Fair play to the Everton fans at 12:57 7 May 2018
Looking at the comments on this thread suggests that Everton fans made more noise after the game, consoling Saints fans than they did inside. Terrible atmosphere and a third of them had gone before the equaliser. I still can't fathom why Goodison is renowned as a hotbed with a "boiling" atmosphere. I've been most years since we got back up and it's always deadly. They never sing and on Saturday, the biggest noise they made (apart from the goal) was to cheer one of the subs on. To be fair they did look a bit sheepish on the way out. |

Just seen the highlights - God knows what Hoedt was doing. |

It's all too easy for refs to see a keeper lose the ball and give a free kick. Always happens. And why no reference on the second goal? I know we were miles away but it looked like Hoedt was being climbed on or pushed. Why else did he not leave the ground. |

It seems everyone handily forgets what a divisive character Cortese could be. Yes, he was a crucial part of a fantastic period of recovery and expansion. But let's not forget how upset so many fans were about his feuds with the media and some of Saints former legends, especially Le Tiss and Benali. And while they do not necessarily bring in funds, or have any influence in the club, I'm very proud that as a community club, Saints have embraced Benali's charitable efforts. His lap of honour after his first big run and being greeted by Le Tiss is one of my highlights of the past few years. It wouldn't have happened if Cortese had still been at the club and I for one think the club would be morally the poorer for that. And don't forget it was apparently Cortese's superior footballing knowledge that insisted we get in the disaster that was Osvaldo (apart from the goal against Citeh). |

Indeed. The season we went down from the Championship, the booing and chanting about not being fit to wear the shirt etc. was horrendous at St Mary's. |

I'd also suggest that we unite the Itchen and Northam supporters and stick the away supporters in the corner like they do at Leicester which is the same stadium in blue. I get sick of seeing the empty seats behind the goal on the highlights or just away fans - it looks like there's no atmosphere, even on those occasions when there is. |
| Forum Reply | Sturridge, Giroud and Walcott . . . . at 19:04 31 Dec 2017
Giroud and Walcott would be great captures (not sure Giroud would be interested in mid to lower end football, though). Having watched Sturridge become one of the most accomplished cheats in the league with his pathetic diving, coupled with his injury record, I'm not sure I'd feel at all comfortable with him on board. |

Funny that the only time the Liverpool fans cheer him is when we boo him - for the rest of the season they dislike him as much as we do. |

Does it also count that if you are fouled and receive treatment you don't have to leave the pitch? Lemina got clobbered and had treatment but stayed on. Has there been a rule change? |

I was right behind the goal at West Ham on his first game. He looked overweight and, apart from the odd self-inflicted smack in the head, he really didn't look bothered. He wasn't communicating properly with the defenders. But he did throw it out well which was hopeful, at least. But now he's had a few months training with the team, getting fitter and running his area, he is definitely the real deal. Love the fact that he catches the ball rather than patting it out for forwards to get rebounds (Rodriguez benefited from Jones lousy technique) and his distribution is awesome. He could have another five years - look at Friedel, Schwarze etc... |
