Saints Most Important Game Since 15th May 2005
at 11:58:59

This is, in my opinion, a massive game for us. It will not be easy that's for sure.

I have to say that Reading have been on an incredible run of form and should be automatically promoted along with ourselves. When they lost 2 -1 at home to Cardiff City in November they were 16 points behind us with an inferior GD. We now know that they currently trail us by GD only. All credit to them. However, if we perform to our ability we could and should win this vitally important match.

My question relating to tomorrow's match is this: -

Which Saints team will turn up?

Will it be the swashbuckling team that despatched Brighton & Hove Albion, Middlesbrough, Derby, etc so easily at the St Marys stadium? Or will it be the team that failed to turn up against Blackpool away or Leicester at home?

Naturallly, I hope that it's the former and we win in a convincing and swashbuckling way.

I am unable to make the game but I have passed my season ticket to another Saints fan living in East Sussex. I hope that he sings his heart out for the duration of the match. Along with everyone else lucky to be able to make it to the game.

This match is the title decider in my opinion. May the best team win.

Walsall Or Dagenham ?
at 16:37:14

Firstly I'd like us to finish on 92 points and be as close to B&HAFC as possible.

Secondly, I'd like to see the Daggers stay up.

Walsall were woeful against Saints up at their place and, but for a combination of woeful finishing and lucky defending, were lucky not to be hammered.

I hope that they get the tonking they ultimately deserve tomorrow at the St Mary's stadium.

Brentford Injury Crisis
at 11:11:17

Nick,

Agreed. Victories against those teams and we would be Champions; we may even have had a guard of honour at the Withdean!

Also, we didn't do so well against Plymouth home, Rochdale away, Rochdale home or Brentford home.

Too many points thrown away this season, I'm afraid.

Brentford Injury Crisis

Sorry meant to say: -

Nick,

This sounds like its odds-on for a Saints win then! What worries me is that every time I've thought this way this season, we go and lose 2 - 0!!

Quite simply, we have to beat Brentford on Saturday. If we don't win this match then, in my opinion, we don't deserve to be promoted.

Who Will Play Up Front On Saturday ?
at 11:37:20

Nick,

Whoever is selected to play for Saints at the Withdean, I hope that they play with determination, a passion and a pride in our club.

I went into Seaford town this morning to 'Paul's Plaice' as I needed some fish for a BBQ this evening. The guys in 'Paul's Plaice' are avid B&HAFC fans and they told me that they don't care if they lose every other game this season but they added that they, 'just want to stuff Southampton!'

I hope we win on Saturday; I really really do!!

Barnard's injury is a blow, for sure. However, we definitely miss creativity in midfield when we play without Adam L, Alex OC and Spiderman. It would be a boost if Adam is available for selection on Saturday.

Saints Can Win At The Withdean !
at 10:47:10

Nick,

I see the game at the Withdean as a very tricky fixture for us. I hope I am wrong and that Saints come away with three points on Saturday.

The problem for me is which Saints team is going to turn up. Will it be the Tranmere away, Rochdale away or the Brentford home team? Or will it be the Oldham away team?

The other issue for me is NA previously saying, 'can Brighton keep up with us?' and, 'we will win the league.' If I were in Poyet's shoes I would be reminding my players of these words and using them for motivational purposes before kick-off on Saturday.

Albion are undefeated at home in the league this season. However, unbeaten records are there to be broken. I would love it if Saints win on Saturday - I mean really really love it; but I fear that it may not be easy for us.

For me, it's all about which Saints team will turn up on the day.

Regards.

Saints V Bristol Rovers The Verdict
at 00:57:18

Barnard going off on the stretcher was a real concern as his injury looks bad. However, Connolly came on looked quality to me.

Gully would have been the first Saints player substituted if I were the manager!

Just as I'm thinking how poor he has been (again!) he goes and scores the sublime winner! What do I know about football management and footballers?

Saints were not convincing Saturday which is disappointing but three points is three points; that's the important thing.

I hope that Adam Lallanna, Alex Chamberlain or Spiderman recover from their injures soon as we will clearly need at least one of them to be back in time for the match at the Withdean next Saturday.

Now Is The Time To Get Behind Saints
at 09:41:03

Nick,

I will be there in the Kingsland stand for all three games.

For the upcoming game against Brizzol Rovers I will be driving as maintenance works are taking place on the rail network between Littlehampton and Barnham. I will also be bringing along with me in the car Mick (Ringmer Saint) and Dave from Lewes.

On my way home from the office yesterday I passed the new stadium at Falmer and noticed a large sign saying,'Well done to Gus and the team. We'll be playing Championship football next season'.

I hope that we can soon see a similar sign put out for Nigel Adkins at St Mary's.

Saints V Charlton The Preview
at 10:44:05

Nick,

I agree. The three points are everything tonight.

I will be there. Usually I travel to St Mary's with Ringmer Saint on the train but, if we were to catch our rail connections going home, we would have to leave at half time!

So this evening I will be driving and will also be taking Dave from Lewes - another Saints fan. I will also be bringing a near neighbour of mine who supports Charlton.

I hope that the Saints fans in my car will be happy travelling home!! Otherwise it could be a long journey!!!

Brighton One Win From Promotion !
at 01:30:56

Nick,

You are not, in my opinion, a moaner. You are merely stating what a lot of fans think.

You are quite correct when you say that Brighton would not have thrown away a lead at Charlton in the way that Saints did last week.

Saints have under-performed in areas where, quite frankly, Brighton haven't.

Last night they won 1-0 away to D&RFC with only two shots on target. On occasions this season they have won 1-0 with only ONE shot on target. Saints seem to need 8 to 10 shots on target for every goal we score.

Brighton also seem to have the knack of keeping it tight at the back. Saints are unable to do this simply through too many school boy errors which take place in defence.

Credit is due to Gus Poyet who has, in my opinion, done a great job in motivating and managing his team to punch above their weight in League 1 this season. They may not play pretty football but it is effective. Their philosophy is to not concede. If they don't score then the least they get is a goalless draw.

I can only imagine what Poyet would have done, had he been our manager, with the resources that we have at our disposal!!!

I am disappointed that we are not walking this league in the way that Norwich did last year.

I hope that we can go up automatically but, as there is absolutely no room for error now, it is going to be tight right up until the last kick of the last match of the season.

Perfect Saints XI
at 16:35:16

My daughter, who is about to go to Uni this summer, thinks I'm senile and should be in a home for the elderly! Anyway this would be my preferred Saints line up having supported them since the mid-1960's: -

Shilton

Mick Mills Dave Watson Chris Nichol David Peach

Terry Paine Jimmy Case Alan Ball Matt Le Tissier

Mick Channon Ron Davies

Subs: - Antti Niemi Martin Chivers Kevin Keegan Claus Lundekvam Michael Svennson David Armstrong Wayne Bridge

Well, that's a team that an old boy would put together. Managed, of course, by Mr Southampton - Ted Bates.

Time To Kick On
at 00:13:05

Nick,

With our facilities, squad and resources we should be good for automatic promotion. In an ideal world I'd like to see us go up as Champions.

Only recently NA was talking about us actually winning the league but this is probably beyond us now as we have thrown away too many silly points; aka Walsall or Tranmere away. Credit is also due to Brighton & HA who are also on a very good run of results themselves.

I hope that the last week, which has seen us gain three victories, will give the impetus we need to now go on a nice long winning streak. I'd like us to go into each match with the belief that we will win and win well. Also, I'd like us to play with a swagger and in a swashbuckling style so that the opposition are afraid of us even before we get on the pitch.

My real concern in all of this is Peterborough. Ferguson seems to have them playing for fun now and were able to beat Carlisle United 6 - 0 at the weekend. A team we recently struggled to overcome 1 - 0 when they were reduced to 10 men.

At this stage of the season it is now time, in my opinion, for NA and his team to prove that they actually want promotion as much as we - the fans - do.

Saints At Bournemouth The Preview
at 03:32:17

I hope the real Saints turn up and that we give the Cherries a real game.

I'd love the three points but would be content with one as Bompey are really strong at their place.

I love the fact that the Bompey Chairman has started his 'mind' games. So far NC has said nothing which is just the way I like it - 'let's do our talking on the pitch'.

I can't go to this game unfortunately but I will be listening-in on the Saints Player. For the fans sake I hope it is an improvement on what I saw on Tuesday evening.

Absolutely right. We have thrown away too many points this season for my liking.

Saints At Hartlepool The Preview
at 19:50:26

Nick,

I agree. If we are truly serious about being automatic promotion contenders then we must go to Hartlepool confident of being victorious tomorrow night.

My concern is which Saints team will turn up; will it be the team that turned up at Oldham away or the one that turned up at Tranmere away?

Personally I don't want to see Saints go up as runners up; I want us to go up as Champions playing other teams off the park with an arrogance and a swagger. With the resources at our disposal this should be our aim.

Win tomorrow evening and this aim may start to become a reality but the players have to cut out the school boy errors and really believe they can do this.

I look forward to seeing a much healthier table from a Saints perspective tomorrow evening.

Regards.

Bonus Night For Saints
at 12:47:35

Nick,

Yes indeed; last night's results were good for us.

The key to automatic promotion is, in my opinion, to win our games in hand. Rochdale will be difficult opposition as they are on a good run of form and have not lost, I understand, since the 10th. December, 2010. Rochdale are at home, they are on a good run of results and will be confident but if we play as we did at Oldham earlier this season then this is a game we can definitely win.

Unless, of course, Saints play as they did at Tranmere away .

It all depends which Saints team turns up on the day.

With our facilities, financial backing and resources we should be going up as Champions and winning by a comfortable margin on Saturday.
