Rangers have been locked in talks with the Argentine club over a deal for the highly-rated Colombian striker.
West Ham had previously struck a deal before pulling out earlier this summer, while other clubs from around Europe such as Italians Napoli and Sassuolo, French side Evian and Spaniards Atletico Madrid have all shown an interest in recent weeks.
However, Rangers have now managed to broker a deal for Zapata worth $10million (£6.4million).
Zapata is now due to arrive in England over the weekend to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical.
The 22-year-old, who is expected to be part of Colombia's squad for next year's World Cup finals, will then need a work-permit - which will have to go to appeal.
QPR are hopeful that Zapata will be granted the move under the 'special talent' ruling.
To be honest looking at the five minute video, I was expected a montage of great goalscoring feats, instead I thought I was back watching Sammy Koejoe.

How do you know none of that was taken into consideration or that it was only one session i imagine he was looked at over a couple of days. I don't mind players being looked at on video but it's important to have a look at them in the flesh as well which is what we have done
I appreciate you rate him but you have to go with the manager on this, he might be wrong but if for any reason he doesn't fancy him we shouldn't just sign him anyway. It might be something as simple as his attitude rather than his ability which is an issue or again it could be the work permit issue or wages or just not suited to english football.
Redknapp is far from teflon, he gets slaughtered on here for all manner of things most of them things he hasn't even done yet.
There is also the issue of character. If Redknapp is serious about "the right sort" [and I hope he is] it is always possible he picked up bad vibes from the bloke.
Hard to tell with 'Arry's policy on Barton etc, I grant you.

But Clive I had a bottle of tequila and a Colombian flag on stand-by to whizz down to Loftus Road and get on to Sky Sports News along with the great White City Unwashed massive,innit?...
Say it ain't so.. 'just a big bloke really'
'Sky Sports understands...' What a pernicious empty phrase!
Lies, rhubarb and what Jim White says.

More like 20StoneOfHoop now.
Let's face it I'm not getting any thinner.
Pass the cake and pies please.

No character issues with Duvan. Top bloke. Everybody liked him at Estudiantes. Huge uproar among their fans because without him they are even worse than they were. If it wasn't for Duvan's goals and assists last season, they would have been rock bottom (and this is a club that took Barcelona all the way to extra-time at the FIFA Club World Cup only a few seasons back. Just to put things in context. They are the biggest of the not-big clubs and they tend to do well).
Things gone awfully quiet now. Sky reporting about the Napoli bid we've known now for at least 3 days.
Does this really depend on the work permit, then?
Wouldn't he be already in Napoli if Harry's thumbs were still pointing down?
Was it all a diversion?
Getting anxious.

I agree with you Arg. If Harry had said no for any reason and his agent had then flown him to Italy for Napoli talks it would have been all over SSN - the agent would have made sure of that! Instead, it's hushly quiet and even Zapata hasn't messaged his ex-team mates about any developments. So I reckon we are still (discussing!!) with the home office and getting the correct paperwork together and awaiting the WP decision.
I still reckon we will sign him.

It was widely reported earlier in the week that we were going to be applying for a work permit yesterday or today, now everything has gone quiet- does anyone know if it's going ahead?

That's that I suppose. Very mysterious. Unlike Redknapp not to go into much detail about it either. It's almost as if we've behaved like a professional football club.
Ultimately if the player trains with us a for a few days and doesn't impress the manager and his staff in that time there's not a lot you can argue with. £7m is too much money for jam tomorrow.

Clearly, a decision being made without having in mind the next 3-5 years of Queens Park Rangers as a football club in mind.
Looking for quick fixes? Still in for +32, +33-yr-old has-beens on incredible wages?
Napoli still keen. Will get him at a discount price now. He'll play in Serie A (probably loaned at Sassuolo if Napoli can't get Matri from Juventus). And watch him go for the next several years. One that got away only because Harry decided. Because he was ours.
Shame. Good luck to all our players. Hope we still succeed in spite of our manager.
I'll be here long after he pisses off and leaves.

I had it up to here with Redknapp.
Can't stand the man.
Can't hide it.

Perhaps he wants 20k a week. We can't afford that if he isn't ready.
He's a great prospect but right now we can't afford to take these massive punts. Big wages go on proven players.
Fine by me.
This obsession with spunking insane wages on back up squad players is insane

I tend to agree. Perish the thought we might actually buy one of these "ones for the future". Good luck getting him to come to QPR when he's first choice at Napoli..
