Simpson to be the catalyst for U's chemical reaction against the Sulphurites 15:00 - Jan 21 with 596 viewsdurham_exile

After a narrow but deserved victory at Bromley the U’s are looking to make it back-to-back away wins with victory at Harrogate tonight.

Of course, the big news is the capture on loan of striker Tyreece Simpson from Stevenage.

Tyreece should also go straight into the team this evening with Lyle Taylor.

The Sulphurites under Simon Weaver are looking for three straight wins and so it should be an intriguing game.

I am going tonight with my eldest son and am really looking forward to seeing our new player score on debut.

Team

Macey

Egbo Kells Flanagan Iandolo

McDonnell Bishop

Payne

Taylor Simpson Edwards

Subs
Goodliffe Gordon Hopper Read Smith Terry Thorn

Weather 4 degrees Celsius drizzle and a gentle breeze.

Prediction 3-1 to the U’s with Simpson among the scorers on his debut.

Be bold DC and play two up top, we are good for it.

Safe journey to the travelling faithful

Fingers crossed for you Durham it's time you saw a really decent win. If we won tonight it would certainly improve our record of just six wins in the first six months of the season!! I'm sure Saturday will be a tough game whereas I remain very positive about our ability to get summat against Port Vale next Tuesday.

Up the almost mid table unheard-of U's

Positive mood on CUSA bus. However, it seems that we are not allowed to disembark outside of the ground and must do so at a hotel some ten minutes walk away. A taxi has hence had to be arranged for our one disabled and two less able fans that can’t be expected to walk this distance. This is outrageous in the modern paradigm of equality and avoidance of disability discrimination.

That is outrageous.

The coaches are normally stopped right by the Away entrance.

All the more reason to win tonight.

I agree Pinot.

Points are there to be had tonight.

Morecambe and Port Vale four out of six would do nicely.

I'll be surprised if Taylor starts with Simpson, however exciting that might be. I expect Simpson to come on once Lyle's done his shift. I'd like to see Thorn start for a change. I see that you have omitted Anderson from the squad. I'm not a fan but acknowledge that he did work hard at the end of Saturday's game.

I just think Anderson is behind Gordon, Edwards and Thorn in the pecking order but he is a firm favourite of the Cowleys.

I think it would be grossly unfair to expect Simpson to come on for 20 minutes on his own up top
Play Taylor with him and see what happens from the start.

I think something along these lines is far more likely. If we haven't picked up any injuries or illness I expect Terry or Hopper to be replaced on the bench by Simpson.

Yep, same line-up as Bromley with Tyreece on the bench, looks like for Hopper. Seems fair enough tbh, but I'm looking forward to seeing Tyreece and Lyle starting, maybe on Saturday? Right, better go amend my predictions.

Just listened to Danny Cowley speaking about the recruitment process in the transfer window. It went on for quite a while and l got the impression that there might be a few problems behind the scenes.

As l key this in he is back on BBC Essex and giving more insight into the process of bringing players in - a difficult task it would seem.

I am very interested in the proposed acquisition of Maldon and Tiptree F.C. as l feel this might impact on the future of Colchester United.

I sense changes on the horizon.

David Gregory is also feeling the need to explain the predicament that the club appears to be in.

I am interested in understanding why the sale of M & T should have an impact on Colchester?

Two average sides cancelling each other out at the moment, time to introduce Simpson?

Robbie Cowling will be involved in all stages of the proposed takeover of Maldon and Tiptree as he owns the stadium and the land that is currently being negotiated with Drewitt Barlow.

He will likely be dealing with the aspect of selling the club ( separate from stadium / land ) on behalf of ( or with ) his brother Richard Cowling too.

From past experience l have seen people go into sell mode after years of buying and wouldn't be surprised if Robbie Cowling considers the sale of Colchester United.

The word is that the club could be up for sale to the right buyer.

He was approached by someone who he may not have considered to be the right buyer and that individual settled for the purchase of Eastbourne Borough in The National South.

Swindon Town told me they were up for sale a few months ago and that they thought the same applied to Colchester United.

A solid if somewhat uninspiring point, but we're back on track - two games unbeaten, two clean sheets. Can't say we deserved more than that, but we didn't deserve less.

Well we're 11 points clear of relegation and the same amount behind the play offs so mid table looks more ^ more likely for us. Simpson was involved in a couple of our attacks so hopefully he'll gain more confidence.

Unless I'm mistaken that is eight clean sheets in the last eleven league matches. The hiccups against Swindon and Accy have been put behind them. A real solidity to build on.

The pie and mash at £8 was excellent.

Great to see Noah and Gerry

Good support 162 from the faithful.

The CUSA coach was treated disgracefully by being forced to park half a mile from the stadium as Noah had suggested before the game

Harrogate must have been in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act by potentially forcing our disabled supporters to make their own way to the stadium but the CUSA supporters paid for a taxi.

Their generosity made up for Harrogate's mean and appalling policy.

Safe journey home for the faithful

I thought we were slightly off the pace in the first half but controlled the second, and with better deliveries from the wings we probably should have won. But another point on the road and another clean sheet, so all in all a good night's work I thought.

I believe Lyle Taylor may have paid for the taxi from bus to stadium. But our courageous disabled trio walked back, one on two crutches, one with a stick, one breathless (heart issues).

These guys are tough, inspirational and work (or worked) damn hard for a living. Frankly, their treatment was outrageous. The bus restriction was known in advance, and apparently there was even a suggestion made that one should not travel, which made him all the more determined. It was similar at Port Vale. What do these clubs not get about disability discrimination?
