Do it http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/888/page/94070 This is risking the health of south west Wales to make Cardiff even wealthier. Make a stand. Fill it out. One day, it may be you or your loved ones who need this centre and have to travel to Cardiff who have 2 within the space of 30 minutes.

The difference is that Cardiff will dominate and I would not be surprised if they got the nod Morriston's work class burns and plastics unit will be moved to Cardiff. Morriston is right on the M4 , has building capacity and, most importantly, is accessible to ALL of south Wales. In major trauma cases "the golden hour" is key. Tough to get to Cardiff from west Wales. There is a trauma centre of this nature in Bristol that can be accessed from the south east. One of the main plays being used by Cardiff is that almost 60% of trauma injuries involve the head and they have the big neurology unit (ironically, lots of it transfered form Morriston!!). However, given the size of the development we are talking about, it can be transferred back as part of a major new build. If the location of a single department is the only criteria when determining the location of this unit then that is outrageous. Geographical location, access to the M4, building land etc should carry a lot of sway. However, given that anything major seems to end up down east, don't hold your breath. I also understand from a family member who works in Morriston that there are significant shortcomings at the hospital in relation to it's management at a senior level. This has resulted in major financial problems and waiting times for a range of services which are not flattering when compared to other Welsh Health Boards. If that's the case, it won't help Morriston's cause.

Found this on the East Lancashire NHS website: "What is the difference between a major trauma centre and a trauma unit? Trauma units will continue to provide care for the vast majority of patients who have sustained injuries. Trauma Units have to meet agreed standards, which will also improve care for patients who have sustained non life threatening or non severe life changing injuries. Major Trauma Centres will only treat those patients who have potentially life threatening or severe life changing injuries. Patients who are suspected of having a major trauma will be taken directly to the major trauma centre if within 45 minutes travel time other than if they need to be stabilised at their local trauma unit in the first instance." http://www.elht.nhs.uk/departments-wards-and-services/trauma-faq.htm

Stop Cardiff from getting the MTC over Morriston! on 21:10 - Nov 21 with 7704 views | Private_Partz | It is absolutely shocking they should be asking for public opinion when the decision is obvious. Cardiff is covered by Bristol . The MTC should be further West and Morriston is obviously a main contender. It should not be Cardiff as it just offers a massive duplication in the SE at the expense of the SW. I read recently a system that showed that Morriston A and E was actually busier than the 'biggest hospital in Wales' as we are often told it is by the BBC. We also have far more farm track roads which create the most accidents and therefore need for the MTC. I suspect it will go East regardless. Even the lives of the population play second fiddle to all things Cardiff it seems. [Post edited 22 Nov 2017 11:27]

There’s no A&E at Singleton. Just a minor injury unit which isn’t 24/7. Swansea’s only A&E is at Morriston.

Within twenty minutes we have pre eminent specialist Heart and ,neurological centres as well as Clatterbridge who saved the life of my life When we were there for her chemo, we spoke to several from north Wales who are sent there and stay over after treatment . I d say Swansea deserves much better.

Yep. Sorry for the late reply and thanks to Clasey for covering me. I could add that Neath Port Talbot hospital also have an A & E and they seem to be coming more into play as Morriston struggles. Not unusual to see 5 or 6 ambulances outside Morriston with one or two paramardics parked up. Then they try and blame the ambulance service for not meeting targets! They have now even changed said targets to massage the figures to make them look good.

If we have had to visit A and E in the last 15 years, we have been to Baglan. It is getting busier as people have become more aware of what they do. I suppose it is an ironic indicator of why an MTU is needed in Swansea or further west as the Golden hour is so important. It is so tragic that the Neuro dept was taken.

Stop Cardiff from getting the MTC over Morriston! on 11:18 - Nov 23 with 7289 views | CopperJack | I won't reiterate the points made above, they've all been covered very succinctly. What worries me most is that they are prioritising the wealth of Cardiff at the expense of the health of south west Wales. Obviously, a huge MTC will bring many well-paid jobs. Only possible reason for them to have 2 MTCs within 30 minutes, whereas everything west of Swansea is over an hour drive. How many have filled it out?

Anyone who looks at that map and Doesn't think it should got to Swansea or further west you would really have to question thier motives. It certainly isn't for the good of the people if it goes to Cardiff. I'm pretty sure i read a couple of months ago Swansea has one of the med Schools in the UK.It would be a shame to lose those brilliant minds.
