The Euro 16 Semi-Final Wales Versus Portugal MatchNight Thread on 00:35 - Jul 7 by jojaca | In hindsight we would have been better playing Johnny Williams from the start instead of King. But it still would have made no difference because Portugal would have beaten us 99/100 matches tonight. Our tempo was far too slow and we needed to get at them like the Hungarians. Just massively disappointed going out without really threatening their goal. I felt sorry for Gareth Bale trying to create something out of nothing, even for him it was a task too much. |
I don't know about that. Williams lost the ball at every opportunity. Too lightweight for this game.

The Euro 16 Semi-Final Wales Versus Portugal MatchNight Thread on 23:09 - Jul 6 by jackrabbit | Collins was a very poor replacement for Davies and King a fairly anonymous replacement for Ramsey who has been our best player. Without Ramsey we had no creativity. And then when you see players like Simon Church coming onto the field, you know it's all over. Anyway, well done Wales in reaching the last 4. It'll be a tremendous boost in confidence for the World Cup qualification campaign. The better team won this evening - no argument. |
I thought Collins had a very good game

A few quality players short of a European Championship final. Overall. we can only applaud the team that took is that far, a momentous achievement! Look forward to seeing other young players making it through to the first team and taking us onto other finals in the future

He looked hopeless when he came on, but maybe that's because he was trying too hard chasing a lost cause.

The future looks bright with these young upcoming players. Gary speed would be proud of his legacy.

The squad we have will get better with more experience, but we could do with some more forwards and creative players coming through. Are there any youngsters we need to look out for?
The Euro 16 Semi-Final Wales Versus Portugal MatchNight Thread on 09:30 - Jul 7 with 1622 views | perchrockjack | Biggest issue is surely the dearth of strikers. We had HRK going off and a MK Don player coming on. The bans for Ben and Ramsey were as significant as we thought. Collins lost his place in West Ham team for a reason. He ain't thst good. What we did do is battle and show balls , the best example being the Belgium game in which we showed skill ,real quality. Last night, we were second best all over . Portugal might prove to be the biggest dark horses ever to win the euros. Either way, very disappointing way to go out as we thought we to have enough

I suppose defensively, yes he was solid. Personally, I wasn't enamoured with Collins' hoofball contribution - thump it and hope somebody gets on the end of it. That's not how we've been playing. Just proves we have no strength in depth. With Davies and Ramsey, I think we could have beaten them. There was absolutely no creativity in mid field. Allen looked slow and was caught in possession more than once. He was lucky to stay on the field at the end.
The Euro 16 Semi-Final Wales Versus Portugal MatchNight Thread on 09:46 - Jul 7 with 1588 views | trampie | Collins was very good - he put his head on everything and was assured with the ball at his feet. King put himself in good positions, 3 half chances in the first half, nearly got onto a long ball with the keeper rushing out, stretched and nearly got a touch on a cross with him being goal-side of the keeper and then he got a flick header which was probably on target but hit the defenders head that went up with him. Both replacements for Rambo and Ben did well, although obviously Rambo and Ben were big misses and we could have won if they weren't missing as both players were having excellent tournaments. Bale was a threat when going it alone but his weight of pass was terrible on the night. Allen was Wales only average player against Belgium [everyone else good] and he was flat out poor against Portugal, he had 4 good games in the tournie but his last 2 games at the business end of the tournie were poor. A big shout out for Taylor and Gunter they both had fine tournaments, Gunter is excellent for Wales and he never lets the national side down, anybody in the Prem looking for a wing back could do a lot worse than him.

They are in the top 10 teams in the world and have a decent record in Euros, they're no Iceland. Did you forget about Greece or Denmark?

The Euro 16 Semi-Final Wales Versus Portugal MatchNight Thread on 11:12 - Jul 7 with 1498 views | sa3swan | Denmark cannot be beaten as the biggest dark horse to win it as they didn't even qualify! Disappointing night, but hats off to Portugal. Good game control, tactically sound and having gone to extra time or extra time and pens in their last 2 games it was impressive that they kept on going. Won 4, lost 2 and always have the memory of that Belgium win. Onwards and upwards to the World Cup in Russia now. Fully expect us to qualify and will get a decent seeding for the finals draw too. Denmark at the time had one of the best players in the world in Michael Laudrup... and they didn't even take him to the tournament.

Greece was a far bigger shock to a lot of football people than Denmark, as a lot thought if Yugoslavia had they competed would have won it., Red Star were European and World champs.

Almost gave away a penalty early on, and generally looked unsure. Watched Ronaldo running in for his superb headed goal - could have got across maybe ?

When we have our best 11 on the pitch (including Ramsey and Davies) and most of the of the team play well, then we'll give anyone a game, even without a genuine international standard striker. If we lose a couple of players, or the level drops 10%, then we just don't have the quality in reserve to do anything about it.
The Euro 16 Semi-Final Wales Versus Portugal MatchNight Thread on 14:06 - Jul 7 with 1362 views | jasper_T | Should've brought Emyr Huws. He could have sat at the base of midfield and let Allen run about further forward. Would've offered more creativity than Ledley.

Yeah I agree Huws should have gone, especially as Coleman had no intention of using Cotterill it seems and Vaughan was taken along as a thank you I think. Hopefully Church going on was because it will be the last we will see of him.
