Home draw is Pompey's wish in the FA Cup
Sunday, 8th Nov 2020 17:06 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey are hoping for a home draw in round two of the FA Cup to cut down the amount of travelling they're doing in a hectic time in three competitions.

The late start to the season means many clubs are playing twice a week most weeks - and that's certainly the case for Pompey, who are still in the FA Cup and Football League Trophy, as well as having their League One campaign to focus on.

They'll be in the second round of the Cup on the last weekend of November after goals by Ronan Curtis, Tom Naylor and Sean Raggett earned a 3-2 extra-time victory at Ipswich in Saturday's first round clash.

Jackett told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'It’s a shame there were no fans there because it was an excellent cup tie and a very good advert for League One. Everyone tells me the last goal was offside, although I haven’t seen it again. But you do get some of those decisions and don’t get others.

'There are quite a few that might have gone our way this season if we’d had a crowd inside the stadium. Ipswich are a very good side. They made a number of changes, but were still able to name a strong team.

'We had a lot chances and looked pretty potent going forward, adding fresh energy with our substitutions. I thought we had the first half and Ipswich had the second, while we still had some clear-cut openings in the latter part and always looked like scoring in extra-time.

'We’ve had a fair bit of travelling recent weeks, so — as ever — we’d like a home draw in the next round.'

Jackett revealed that Andy Cannon had picked up a groin strain at Portman Road and could face a short spell out, while Callum Johnson came off with a dead leg.
