Bishop's Blues pressure recedes after opening day goal - or was it goals?

Colby Bishop enjoyed his Pompey debut to the full - even if he is not sure how many goals he scored.

The former Accrington man definitely got one and may have had a second if his header crossed the line before bouncing and being belted in by Michael Jacobs.

Bishop and his strike partner Joe Pigott helped Pompey to a 3-3 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on an encouraging opening day for the team.

Bishop told the club website: 'I’d like to say I scored two, but I think Crackers is claiming the first. We’ll have to go to the dubious goals panel! It's always nice to score an early goal after joining a new club because it takes that bit of pressure off.

'The ball in from Joe was great and the keeper made a good save, with Crackers following it up. The second one was an even better delivery and I didn’t have to move. But it would have been nice to claim the three points that I think we deserved for that second half performance.

'It’s a very hard place to come. They produce a good atmosphere and have some top players, so we had to find a way into the game after the break. It ended up being more like an NBA game, but you can get that on the opening day because it’s what you’ve been waiting for.

'There were a lot of new partnerships on the pitch, so when we fully click, I’m sure you’ll see some special performances. For me personally it was a special experience. I haven’t played a game with that many away fans behind us, so it’s something I’ll never forget.”
