Points targets? Not from me, says Pompey boss ahead of Charlton test Friday, 23rd Feb 2024 15:41 by Pompey-fans.com staff There's no long-term planning of possible points hauls from John Mousinho as he takes Pompey to Nathan Jones' Charlton for their latest League One assignement. Plenty of fans are trying to work out how many more points Pompey will need on top of their curreny hail of 72 to win promotion at the end of the campaign - though it is of course a guessing game. And it's a game Mousinho is having none of, telling the club website: '“We just need to try to win as many games as possible – you don’t want to set too many targets. If you break fixtures down into blocks and work out what you want from them, you might achieve it early and then take your foot off the gas. 'So it’s all about focusing on the next one and Nathan’s sides are always well organised and know exactly what they’re doing. 'He’s probably had enough time now to get some good ideas into Charlton and we expect another tough test. I think we’ll see a much changed outfit – there were signs of that when they drew up at Bolton last weekend. 'From our point of view, it’s nice to go from Saturday to Saturday because you get some extra time on the grass. It also allows us to give the boys a bit more rest after what is always a busy period in the game over Christmas. 'Hopefully it will benefit us towards the end of the season because we’ll have some fresh legs after bolstering the squad in January.' Mousinho is still waiting to learn the extent of the hamstring injury that forced Tom Lowery off during the recent win over Cambridge. But he said Zak Swanson was set to return to training an should be fit to return to the squad soon - and Myles Peart-Harris was 'recovering nicely' and should be available at The Valley.
