England Under 21 International called up for Wales Monday, 13th Nov 2023 19:20 by Swansea Independent Jay Dasilva Has been called up to the Wales full international squad, the left back has answered the call after a complete history of England appearances right up to under 21 level. He qualifies for Wales as his grandmother is from Pontypridd. It’s an interesting choice from Wales head coach Rob Page, Jay has fifteen Championship appearances under his belt this season for Coventry City and will surely be seen as back up - but we are not too sure. He has three yellows to his name this season and one assist. Any rearguard action required in Armenia on the weekend or against Türkiye next Tuesday will require as much defensive experience as possible. The twenty five year old played just under one hundred and fifty times for Bristol City before joining Coventry City in the summer. His brother Cole has played for Wales at Under 21 level. Ben Davies, Neco Williams, and Sunderland’s Niall Huggins were Page’s other options at left back, speaking on the call up Page said. “Jay brings valuable experience and versatility to our squad. His journey in English football has been commendable, and we believe he can contribute significantly to our defensive setup.” Coventry boss Mark Robins though has played Jay in a more advanced left sided role, the majority of his appearances coming in a more advanced midfield four or a form of left/wing back. Maybe Page see’s him as a more flexible option if things do require bolstering up at the back. It feels like a solid international selection from Page as Cymru go in to two games they really do have to win.
