Look who's back for Pompey Tuesday, 14th Jan 2020 22:37 by pompey-fans.com staff Jack Whatmough captained Pompey Reserves to a 1-1 Central League Cup draw at Plymouth as he continued his return to the first team squad after injury. The centre half looked fit and playing within himself as the Blues battled to claim a draw. Klaidi Lolos gave Argyle the lead but new signing Reeco Hackett-Fairchild scored to secure a share of the spoils. Hackett-Fairchild and Whatmough were the senior members of a Pompey side also containing Haji Mnoga and Matt Casey. It was wet and windy, particularly in the second half, but Whatmough's successful completion of the game made it a useful occasion for Pompey. After the game Blues academy manager Mark Kelly told the Pompey website: 'We had five or six clear-cut chances and played with some good patterns in difficult conditions in the second half. 'That meant it was always going to be difficult to perform the way we wanted to, but we tried to remain disciplined. I think we had enough to win comfortably, but players got important minutes, so it was a useful exercise.' Pompey: Seymour; Mnoga, Casey, Whatmough, Rew; Bridgman (Robb 88), Storey (Brook 67); Teggart, Flint, Maloney; Hackett-Fairchild. Subs not used: Kelly, Lee, Anderson
