Pompey defender wants to go places, but isn't leaving Tuesday, 30th May 2017 22:38 by pompey-fans.com staff In a week at Pompey so far dominated by one high-profile depature, and one which is dragging on somewhat, it's good to be able to report on a Fratton favourite who is very much STAYING. Homegrown defender Jack Whatmough has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract - and is vowing to battle to pin down a regular starting spot in Pompey's 'formidable' defence. Whatmough told the club website: 'It’s fantastic to sign a new contract and be a part of what is going on here. I’ve had unfortunate breaks with injuries, so it’s nice to look ahead to the future and another two years at Pompey. 'In the past few years I’ve seen a lot of hard times as the club struggled and slid downwards through the leagues. But now we are on the way back up again and it’s great to be involved and play a part in that. 'There is good competition in that position, with Christian Burges, Matt Clarke and Tom Davies — it’s a formidable back-line.'
