Who Would Be Your Player Of The Half Season ? Tuesday, 14th Jan 2014 22:11 With just over half the season gone, who would be your player of the first five months of the season, here we look at a few contenders.
Unlike this time last year when we were not so much looking for the best player of the start of our return back to the Premier league but more like the least terrible, there are a few contenders this time around.
Starting from the back in no particular order I would put these names forward.
Artur Boruc - His return on Saturday saw us pick up our first League win at St Mary's since his injury and only our second in total, in some respects no surprise, in my mind in the first half of the season there wasn't a better keeper in the country, not only did he make some stunning saves but he also commanded his area in a way that no other Saints keeper could do, he truly is worth about 10 points a season, two of those came in the final minute against West Brom.
Dejan Lovren - A rock in the middle of the defence and perhaps the best buy in the past few years since Rickie Lambert, hs presence in the defence has been essential, not to mention his aerial power up at the other end for corners.
Morgan Schneiderlin - Once again another great season in the making for Morgan, has carried on were he left off last year, will figure strongly in the voting not just now but come the final reckoning in May.
Adam Lallana - His finest season yet and there could be more to come as he sets about making sure that he is on that plane to Brazil in the summer, scores some great goals and makes the team tick going forward, the more fluid role he has under Pochettino suits him a lot more than the system deployed last year.
Jay Rodriguez - The unsung hero of the team, whilst others have been feted the obvious names and others yet still argued about who is better between Osvaldo & Rickie, Jay Rod has just got on with scoring goals ane being our best striker, some still refuse to acknowledge this perhaps in some sort of misguided loyalty to Rickie, but Roy Hodgson recognised his talent and although his England debut wasnt as succesful as Adam's or Rickie's come to that, if he keeps scoring and playing how he has done, hi verasility to be able to play either wide or up front might just swing him a place to Brazil.
So there we have it, the top five contenders for player of the season, there are a couple of others who im sure will be put forward, but I feel these five have just made a little bit more of a contribution and therefore deserve it a little bit more.
So do you agree with my selections, if not why not and who would be your player of the half season ?

I agree with all those but I would also add Wanyama. He breaks play up so effectively and takes the pressure off our defence although his distribution could be better at times. Out of those you have mentioned I would say Lallana and Lovren have been the most consistent.

Wanyama is a good call and i did consider him, but I dont think he is as vital to the team as these five mentioned, I think we will now go on and win a few with Wanyama still out injured whereas i wouldnt be so confident without Boruc or Lovren for instance and to a lesser extent the other three

Sorry Nick, I'm still distracted about that west brom, forward's erection! I wonder if we've stumbled across the reason Kelvin doesn't come for crosses. After all if I was in goal and had to come out with a fast moving erection coming straight for me, I would stay on my line for as long as possible. All is forgiven, Kelvin.

Boruc certainly has the west brom players vote

You should already know the answer to this question as it is on your "Ratings Summary for the Current Season" list. Interestingly, the fans best team would be (using the regulars) thus: Boruc Clyne, Font, Lovren, Shaw, Cork, Wanyama, JWP, JRod, Lallana, Davis. Lallana being Player of the half season.

In view of the current unhappy news that Cortese is leaving, I dont much care who your player of the half season is, tell you what give it to Cortese he more than deserves it. Why doesnt this arrogant German woman just sell the club let me guess there is an offer and she doesnt think its enough money. No wonder the don is quitting.

It's a bit like looking for biscuits when your house is on fire. Whoever gets it will not be here to win it next season if NC goes closely followed by MP. For the record Adam by miles followed by Lovren.. This is the same Adam you suggested could not play in front of Shaw because he offers no protection..

I think Wanyama is just as important as those 5. Like 1teem sais - he breaks up play so effectively. He is a key player and we miss him hugely to the extent that this is the reason we have lost so many games recently.

I agree with St Michael's choice. Saints would be severely damaged by the loss of Adam. I would, however, like to mention Steven Davis, whose covering back, particularly for Shaw (as Adam doesn't) and all-round energy is astounding. On the Cortese front I thought he'd previously said he had a plan B if it all went sour with the Leiberr family. If they sell let's hope it's to a monied but genuine football fan.

St Michael, when this season has Adam played in front of Shaw ? his role this season is totally different to last, his performances this season are totally different to last

I would give it to Lovren because he has slid effortlessly into the team, shored up a leaky defence and evolved a good partnership with Fonte and big Artur, whereas Lallana has had many years at the club and is more familiar with many of the players.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Portsmouth Polls |
