Plymouth Match Thread - Post Captain Pugwash !!
at 17:22 18 Jan 2025

I am sure Marti was not just told pre season that here are the new 10 players, sort it out and get them playing.......the players are also Marti's players as well.

As for Colback, I think he may have had a reaction to his knee injury(??) but I still think MC had time to mention him in his post match chat.

Played well today, perhaps picking him at Leicester was a very wise move by MC & not a poor decision like many on this very MB was complaining about!!!!!

Fox and Paal were very good as well........very good back 4 performance, strong, powerful, assured - good overall defensive performance, hence no goals conceded nor the keeper threatened. likewise a very good game by Varane as well.

We must start taking our chances though but as you say, we are creating which is progress.

4-1-4-1 is how they set up and I think that will be no different on Saturday but the players need to flexible as the game gets played. He may well be changing it himself as well depending on the performance/goals/subs......

MC would not be pleased with the result mate, nor some of the players performances = 100%.

As for the priority....he wants to win but he also wants a fit & capable squad for the Plymouth match. It will not just be him, but a few of his team will be giving their opinions.

You think what you like but I do not have a problem with what and how he, MC, did at Leicester.........I lay no blame on him whatsoever - I blame the players and not all of them either.

You keep 'banging on' about MC's team selection SE, bit like I did when we had the pleasure of LD playing CF for us but I think my criticism was just and valid because I saw it week in and week out with my own eyes.

I have no doubt, rightly or wrongly, MC's priority (& the Club) is Championship football and get as many points as possible, not because of relegation imho but because that is their priority. I hope you agree with that one SE.

Now lets talk about Team selection. Firstly the keeper, he may be needed if Nardi gets injured so he needs to be a little up to speed so surely you understand why he needed to get some game time. Then you look at the back 4, Dunne has been played to death this season and a vital part of the Team plus perhaps he was carrying a couple of minor knocks. I have seen him hobbling around in the last match so, just perhaps it was an opportunity to give him a day off. It was quite important to give an initiation to Edwards as he may be needed for first team action very soon, perhaps. Clark-Salter came into the side which, hopefully you will agree, enhances the team and also gives him an opportunity to get up to speed with his fitness. Ashby has been pretty much playing frequently from the start for many games this season. So defensively I do not believe that we were too weakened on the face of it. Moving to midfield, Chair, Field & Varane are regulars so I presume you have no issues. So Saiko & Madson was introduced, Saiko understandably for Smyth whom looked tired against Luton and took a heavy knock as well. Hopefully you get that change too because it isn't difficult to understand. Then Madsen which is not difficult to argue against except, perhaps, MC thinks he needs game time and I understand that as well but I also understand why many think he is not very good or worse (not my view though). Up front he played Kolli whom replaced an ageing Frey and maybe a delicate Frey. Once again, I concur with MC resting him or giving Killi more first team experience. So that is my stance and I will be very difficult to move on those opionions.

The result, 6-2......very disappointing but if you make as many individual mistakes as we did then that will happen against Premier League, albeit, low level team. We are not going to win the Cup anyways so lets get up the league with fitter players and a bigger squad availability, younsters learning and players and Management learning about the Premier game and the players.

No issues at all except the result was disappionting.

Kolli needs to stay here and play and be around the first team, same as Alfie Lloyd......why would you send them out to a Div1 or 2 team??

I would suggest that he was signing 2 year contracts with QPR from the age of 11, maybe earlier.

I said it on the day that MC's team selection was well acceptable at Leicester.....and I stick by my opinions despite a 6-2 defeat. The man that cost us mainly would probably (and arguably) have been in the starting 11 anyways.

Keep up the good work MC & his team, no issues team selection wise with me but I do think Colback should be a starter on Saturday.

Interesting.....I not sure that we will make the play-offs but I think we will be higher up the league than we currently finding ourselves.

Providing we get our injured players back and players stay fit plus a couple of decent signings this transfer window then we have every chance of pushing up close to the play-offs.....there isn't a lot out there as we have already seen.

We have a decent squad of players and some proper leaders here as well and, don't forget, the Manager and his close Team.

He has a chance........good attitude on the pitch, strong, brave, works hard. Needs to take his his goal chances & relax when he has the ball at his feet.
