I agree. We've already seen that when we stop the stupid passing at the back and play Ramsdale rather than McCarthy in goal, we can compete at this level. Of course, to get the goals we really need, we must get a centre forward in January. Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year [Post edited 23 Dec 15:21]

Gardening leave for Alex McCarthy would be a good idea before he is released at the end of his contract. We'd have lost 2 or 3 - nil today, if he'd been in goal. He's cost us so many games over the years; I never want to see him play for us again. |

Ramsdale for McCarthy and Juric for Martin = clean sheet. I'm very happy with that. We've got rid of Martin and his stupid passing at the back, but we also need to make sure that we get rid of McCarthy asap so he can't do any more damage here in future. I already get the impression that Juric is such a sensible manager that he wouldn't pick him anyway. |

Results suggest it's not a good thing to have. Sir Alex Ferguson had none when he went to Man United, Guardiola had none when he went to Man City and Klopp and Slot had none when they went to Liverpool. You're more likely to find it at the bottom teams than at the top ones. The more Premier League clubs they manage, the worse they seem to get. [Post edited 21 Dec 21:01]

There is always going to be a bit of cynicism after what's happened with our managers in recent years, but this time I feel more optimistic than I did when the last 2 were appointed. I'm sure Jurić will get a great welcome from our fans. |

Maybe he could get a Roma player here on loan until the end of the season. Jurić had some top class players at Roma: Dybala, Cristante, Ndicka, Koné, Pellegrini, Saelemakers, Dovbyk and El Sharaawy. At the beginning of this season Roma were ranked by UEFA as the 5th best team in Europe, just behind Liverpool. He's going to have a bit of a shock when he sees the level of our squad. UEFA club coefficient ranking As of 29 August 2024 Rank Club Points 3 Bayern Munich 114.000 4 Liverpool 102.000 5 Roma 93.000 6 Paris Saint-Germain 91.000 [Post edited 20 Dec 22:01]

It was reported a while back that we couldn't afford to pay compensation for a manager currently in work so I guess SR looked at the pool of unemployed managers and decided that Jurić was the pick of the bunch. Under the circumstances, we could have done a lot worse. With regard to the Club's finances, I really hope they can wait longer before selling Dibling, as his value is only going to increase with time. Selling a player who might one day be worth £100 mill for £25 mill in January, would not be sensible unless the Club is desperate for any money they can get asap. [Post edited 22 Dec 10:23]

I agree. My first post was a bit of a knee jerk reaction to the news. I've watched a lot of Serie A (on TV) in recent years and I quite liked his Torino team. We wouldn't have got an equivalent English manager of his calibre. |

Kjetil Knutsen would have been my choice. He's someone who could have taken a club like ours, stuck with us for many years and given us the greatest spell in our history, as he's proved with his current club. BUT, he's turned down offers from bigger clubs than ours so we probably couldn't have got him here. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as Brighton's next manager though, as they've tried to get him in the past. Jurić is a far less ambitious appointment. He has a record of avoiding relegation in Italy, which I guess is all SR were looking for. Anyway, I really hope it works out for him here. [Post edited 20 Dec 11:32]

Yes, he would be as he knows he'd struggle to get another job in Serie A after his recent failure. "On 18 September 2024, Jurić became the new head coach of Roma, following the sacking of Daniele De Rossi after earning just three points in the first four games of the season. Jurić failed to turn the team's fortunes and was regularly criticized for his management style and poor results; he was eventually dismissed on 10 November 2024, after a 2–3 home loss to Bologna that left Roma 20th in the Europa League table and only four points ahead of the relegation zone in Serie A." To be fair, some of the other names we were linked with, could have been worse. The very fact that Roma appointed him in the first place suggests that he had a good reputation. So, let's hope things work out for him here. [Post edited 22 Dec 10:23]

Sounds like West Brom fans are starting to turn against him, so he knows it's time to get out. We all know Ankersen's management recruitment motto: # Embrace Failure Of course, any sane person knows if you embrace it, don't be surprised if that's what you get. [Post edited 19 Dec 16:39]

A third mid-table Championship manager in a row and they expect the results to be any different? Ankersen is stubborn and narrow-minded. There's a whole world out there to choose from, which is what successful clubs do, but, unfortunately for us, SR don't. |

Good Premier League strikers, like top managers, don't usually come from the Premier League. There is a whole world out there to find one from, which is what successful clubs do. It will be useful to monitor who Newcastle are interested in now that they've got the best head of recruitment we ever had, Paul Mitchell, in charge. [Post edited 19 Dec 16:18]
