Johnny's boxing career happened way before my time but I used to see him a lot in and around Hamer. Always laughing and joking, singing old songs and telling stories. His favourite catchphrase was "yaba daba doo!" For some reason? Proper character was Johnny.
For me Dom, it's not simply the fact it's £22. Oldham's visit to Spotland left me with a lot of hostility towards the club and I wouldn't want to hand over a penny to them. That being said, I'll find it hard staying at home with this going on down the A627.
I'm torn on this one. Part of me wants to give the boys the support they deserve but I might stay away out of principle. I'd really begrudge giving £22 to them. One things for sure, I won't be taking the kids.
We used to do Castleton to Rochdale, was a whole day of a job. Starting from The Junction. Then onto George and Dragon The Church The Bridge Commercial Blue Pits New Inn Midland Fairview Then into Sudden it was The Windmill Waggon Clog and Shawl Then the last leg St Albans and The Castle. Never actually made it into Town funnilly enough
Lambert, Holt, C.Dawson, Buckley, Le Fondre, Dagnall, Jones, Murray, Gilks. To name a few. Yes we've had some shit players over the years but EVERY club has. We have also been fortunate enough to watch some great talent grace the hollowed turf of Spotland in recent years.
Couldn't agree more. Love his desire and commitment. He doesn't give the opposition a minutes peace. It's not always pretty bit is very effective. Nobody else quite like him in the team. A key part of our success this season.
In the 90 minutes I was there maybe 50-100 people. I know this has been exhausted on here but the fact that this was literally on our doorstep and nothing was done to promote the club is frustrating. Cracking view of the ground from the ferris wheel tho.
Just got back from Spotland's funfair with the family. Not a bad few hours spent. What I couldn't help noticing however was the lack of any promotion on the clubs part. Surely it would have been a good opportunity to target any families that had turned up. Maybe get Dez out for a couple of hours? Just seems like a missed opportunity to me.
We could start with the basics, by ensuring that each game is advertised properly at the ground. Then we need to be relentless in our pursuit of attracting new fans. Hit every pub, school, college, library, community centre, church, mosque and market in the town with promotional material. I know a few pubs have been very supportive in the past. In short we shouldn't be able to move without seeing Dale related material.
Somebody recently mentioned a bus service running from some of the further away parts of town. I think this would be worth trialling. Say a service running up through Whitworth, Bacup then back via walsden, littleborough before heading to Spotland.
We must capitalise on our on-field success. I think with our attractive football fans would want to see more. It has to be worth a try!
