England šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁄󠁮󠁧ó æ v Slovenia šŸ‡øšŸ‡® Match Thread
at 18:08 25 Jun 2024

2-0 (Kane, Stones)

Thoughts
International tournament football is much harder / tighter than i probably realise. Coaches get less time with players, club cliques, less ā€˜easyā€™ footballing nations etc.

Southgate is not Taylor or Keegan or McClaren or Hodgson or Allardyceā€¦

Hype is high. This time of year the OTT mainstream press circus sets up camp on the edge of town and resident expectations of bearded women and dwarf firing canons go through the roof / canopy.

Knickers get twisted, flags get waved, faces get painted and that weird uncle whoā€™s lazy eye always seems to rest on your sister passes out on the couch at halftime due more to a lack of quality rather than solely alcohol content.

I accept hospitality businesses are the ones praying for a nation to ā€˜go deepā€™. Cash ainā€™t it.

Suggestion
Have a laugh, donā€™t take it (yourself) too seriously. Keep trees vertical, be nice to strangers but donā€™t get in their cars, only disagree with people whose opinion you value.

Sofa King Cheap was a furniture store near Wishaw I think.
30 odd years ago in Bracknell there was a cracking kebab to be bought from Jasonā€™s Doner Van.

Question for a Scottisher
at 08:46 19 May 2024

I saw Hearts win at Celtic in Dec, theyā€™ve had a good season - tailed off a bit.
Fans of national team are optimistic for Shankland this summer.

When I first moved to Scotland (late 90ā€™s) I was told of the business model for certain new stadiums being built (ICT, Falkirk, Clyde) included a large away end or stand that can be used for away fans (particularly Celtic /GR).

I believe over the years that fans revenue has reduced in comparison to other streams (not to the extent of in England though), so less need to accommodate Old Firm away fans.
As alluded to above the cost of policing / stewarding increases the more away fans you attract too.

I always draw Venetian Blinds horizontal before raising them.
Itā€™s what you should do because thatā€™s how theyā€™re designed.

Also, upright fridges donā€™t work so well if you leave the door open whilst you make a brew.

Remarkably, alternatives to putting the central heating on exist - socks, jumpers, joggers, closing windows / doors etc.

Thanks for listening.

Watford done the double on us and weā€™ve currently still won more games than them this season - thatā€™s how long itā€™s been.

Does This Ref Get The First Ever Zero Rating From Clive .
at 06:55 8 Mar 2024

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes:

"I've been told that West Brom played with two keepers for a while.

"I'm not here to complain. I'm here to make sure my team is better, so if we need to play against two keepers then we need to practice playing against two keepers.

"Football is a game with mistakes and unfortunately refs can make mistakes as well. They have a very difficult job - the second most difficult job, after being a manager.

"On the pitch I thought their keeper made an amazing save - I mean the real keeper. That shows you how difficult the referee's job is. I was shown it (on video) afterwards."

We can be more like Marti.

I loved Gary Oā€™Neil cheating (getting caught) at Wembley.
Brom fans loved Cedric Kipre cheating (not getting caught) at LR.
Thatā€™s football.

I could be wrong but I think I see JCS admiringly clarify with Kipre what happened at the end of ext highlights. Professionals make big decisions quickly. Kipre made the right one.

We move on stronger. šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

Our win vs Rotherham is massive
at 09:47 25 Feb 2024

Good post hoopsie
Agree with gazza that theyā€™re all massive now.
Need to focus on consistency - getting the most out of this squad until end of season (grow confidence).

Avoid looking at others around us, concentrate on who we are and what we can achieve (we will win, draw and lose before May).
HEAD

Of course, weā€™re fans too.
With other teams picking up points around us - what do we think the safety points total will be?
47 - 52ā€¦.

Good read that - thanks.
It isnā€™t hard to abuse someone, but Ramsdaleā€™s words makes it easy to be empathetic.

Enjoy your football this season Konk.

Useful Nix.
He hasnā€™t said heā€™s depressed or suicidal.
Arranged a day out on a hill with him next month, getting him out the city feels right.
Appreciate you taking the time respond.

Sorry to hear that wombat.
One of my pals lost his mum and last month his partner finished with him. Itā€™s hit him hard and heā€™s withdrawn.
All heā€™s said to me is that he is sad all the time. Drinking each night to sleep etc.
I donā€™t know what to say or do. What is helping you wombat?

ā€œGive it time mateā€ feels so empty.

Doesnā€™t help heā€™s a Liverpool fan just now either.

Itā€™s those surprise moments that really get me.
Something too about predators in the wild (although owl sanctuaries are up there with roman forts for first date options... Partridge?).
Ospreys are the birds most recognisable with fish, but Iā€™ve been told that a hungry peregrine will steal or pirate a fish caught by an osprey.
New England on the list Boston - covid scuppered attending a wedding near Camden, Maine in 2020 but weā€™ll get across one day.

Bowie. High Teachings From beyond..
at 23:19 15 Jun 2022

Lucky enough to ā€˜meetā€™ Bowie on the set of Labyrinth.
Whilst waiting for the lighting to be adjusted for the thousandth time I remember Bowie loving a bored Jack Purvis getting up in front of the crew to belt out Letā€™s Dance. Two men with lights dancing in their eyes and smiles.

Later getting more into his music - and connecting with pals in a Aigburth flat to David Live.
Here Today, Gone Tomorrow - tell those you love now.
