Colchester Match Thread..

We started well but they grew in influence with the MJ Williams lookalike starting to gain space and dictate play. Newby finding pockets but little hint of end product, albeit cynically fouled a few times. Grant showing nice touches and Campbell looks a good player without it quite linking up yet (often back to goal but no one near enough to him).

Home fans sparse and quiet… but can add their banner of COL U 1 TEAM IN ESSEX PRIDE OF ANGLIA to the highlights of the first half.

Time to release Charmander …

Confirmation Statement (showing Share Ownership) available on Companies House
at 15:35 19 Jun 2020

https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/00111019/filing-history

Last year's is also available here (for comparison), but as I don't have an easy way of getting the PDF into Excel I'll leave that to someone else.

EDIT - Manual list captured below (apologies if I've missed anyone or any of this is incorrect, if it is i'll re-edit)

Major (above 5,000) Holdings
110,000 Andrew Kilpatrick
58,250 Andrew Kelly
37,343 North Yard Analytics LLC (Dan Altman)
37,342 Gergedan LLC (Emre Marcelli)
35,000 James Marsh
32,072 Beryl & Graham Morris
22,397 David Kilpatrick
14,250 Graham Rawlinson
14,387 Geoffrey Brierley
13,100 David Bottomley
12,625 Dale Trust
12,500 Tony Pockney
6,360 John Faulks
5,200 Andrew Hilton
5,000 Christopher Cheetham
5,000 Robin Mathieson
5,000 Colin Parton

"Of the 900,000 limit, there are 502,957 in the hands of Shareholders and the remainder (397,043) are unissued." so the above names represent 425,826 (or 84.66%) of the issued shares.

The Board have stated an intent to add an extra 300,000 shares (which would be available at a minimum price of £6 per share) to these unissued shares. This needs Shareholder agreement.

Cheers Fitzochris.

I've tried to dig into Emre Marcelli & KURZHAAR FUND/CAPITAL but i've not had much luck - has anyone found anything? This in itself is quite strange, because a Fund should have external information/a snazzy website (as they are looking to attract money that they the invest and take ~0.5% fees off).

Would agree it seems quite MoneyBall oriented, but are other teams really not doing this/does this data exist for players below the football league?

Books to read
at 10:17 14 Apr 2020

I usually use Good Reads to track my books (similar to IMDB, you rate the book out of 5). Currently reading The Spy & The Traitor by Ben MacIntyre which may join the 5* club...

Fiction
Dodgers (Bill Beverly)
All Quiet on the West Front (Erich Remarque)
I Am Pilgrim (Terry Hayes)
The Millenium Trilogy (Stieg Larsson)
An Officer and a Spy (Robert Harris)
My Struggle 1 (Knausagard)

Sport
Open (Andre Agassi)
Racing Through the Dark (David Millar)
A Life Too Short: The Tragedy of Robert Enke (Ronald Reng)
The Secret Race (Tyler Hamilton)
The Boys in the Boat (Daniel James Brown)
Invincible (Amy Lawerence)

Whilst not 5* I enjoyed the Cormoran Strike series, A Little Life, any Murikami books and Tartt's Goldfinch + Secret History (but less so The Little Friend). I've been through all of GoT and think you can spend the time better elsewhere.

On the Podcasts side, the football ones I really enjoy are
Guardian Football Weekly
The Athletic's Ornstein & Chapman
Quickly Kevin Will He Score? (90s football)
That Peter Crouch Podcast
The early days of the Magic Sponge were also very funny.

I know there are some big Sopranos fans on here so I'll mention
"Talking Sopranos" has just started but I haven't started that yet...

Serial was also brilliant.

Can recommend the Town Wall pub near the station for those travelling by train and looking for a convenient place for a pre-match drink.

Quick look at the financial statements
at 11:28 2 Jan 2020

A great and informative read, so thanks to all who have provided figures/research. One quick question - is there any suggested figure for Hill's weekly wage? 39 months (and 33 in a lump sum) could be a very substantial figure... for example £500k if he was on £3k a week.

Based in NW London, about 2 inches on the grounds but transport coping pretty well (certainly better than yesterday).

Forecast expects majority of snow to start early Thursday AM.

It's -4 though now with a 'real feel' of -9 so probably worth wearing a coat.

Pitch not good
at 10:30 23 Feb 2018

Done a bit research regarding undersoil heating, and a couple of figures I found for installation are £700k quoted by the Peterboro chairman and £500k quoted by the old reliable Daily Mail.

Say the true cost is £1m, do we not feel this would be worth it given our history with postponements?

From a financial point of view it may not quite cover itself over a 10 year period, but the benefits to the team of knowing they have a greater control over whether the home games are on and the subsequent lack of a need to fit rearranged games in and have the Sat-Tues-Sat scenarios we are now seeing.

Does anyone know if the club have done a cost-analysis of this in the past?

If the club are having to dig right down this Summer and relay the pitch, now should be the time this is being considered.

Travel to Wembley.

Thought I'd add a bit more...

At Wembley it can take a long long time to get from your seat to onto a tube due to congestion.

For the Newport replay the attendance was capped at 51k with 7.7k to Newport, so you could easily be waiting 60 mins to get on a tube back to central London... bear this in mind if booking late trains (last train from Euston to Manchester seems to be 23:00) - if the game is 8pm kick-off that will be tight, and nigh-on impossible if it goes to extra time.

Park at Stanmore either in the station NCP or nearby and then 4 stops on the tube (10 mins) to Wembley

Linesman gave the red not the ref...Hendo got the ball but it was studs up and off the ground plus their player rolling around made the decision.

Very frustrating to travel all this way and pay £25 to see the game ruined by a red

Penalty for holding looked very harsh, strong handed save from Moore.
Ref definitely favouring Southend and inconsistent. Southend with more of the ball withit really threatening, Rochdale playing quite direct which may be more effective when Davies comes on. 0-0 fair reflection of the game so far
