| News Comment | Who Had Heard Of Pochettino ! As Saints Fans Question New Manager's Credentials at 22:37:13
Shock treatment in order to get players to raise their game and focus is the only way that we have any chance of staying up. Unlike some, I don't follow every league in Europe in depth, so I'll give any new Saints manager the benefit of the doubt until I see what they can actually do in post. Praying SR have got it right this time. COYR |
| News Comment | Russell Martin Turns On The Fans And Players at 13:03:22
I'm sorry but I don't read that comment as a criticism of the fans. It's a criticism of the perils of kicking it out ie opposition get the ball and put you straight back under pressure. Which sadly came true. There was a bit of anti RM shouting during the game from a few fans, a few v signs when he came over to clap and a rather choice adaption of the Jeff Beck song at the final whistle. Sports republic really need to come clean on what their plans are. Are we sticking with RM regardless of results, or is there a line in the sand that will trigger a change. This could get messy if there is no clarity. COYR |
| News Comment | Enough Is Enough ! Russell Martin Has To Adapt Or Go ! at 11:39:29
He just doesn't appear to be learning. Which is disappointing. Firmly of the opinion that we have enough of a squad to put in a serious challenge to stay up. Last night KWP, Fernandes, Wood and Manning were all excellent and 3 of those are currently squad players. However, we have no chance if we carry on with this suicide football. Sides press us hard and take full advantage of mishit or slow passes with our defenders spread out looking to get open for a pass, leaving at least one unmarked player through on goal. If it does go on, SR are clearly happy to go back down with him. This really isn't going to motivate any team and performances may decline even further. Sometimes it's bloody hard being a Saints fan! | News Comment | Does Shea Charles Prove That Russell Martin's Player Judgement is Flawed at 15:40:50
Not sure you can really lay into Russell Martin for continuing to pick Jack Stephens. Every manager we have had has picked him! There must be something about Jack that we 'civilians' just don't see. Shea is thriving but he's playing in League 1. Think more of our young players would do far better with proper developmental steps rather than the odd 10-20 minutes now and again in the PL. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict at 11:35:06
Downes' injury was a big part of the reason behind the first goal. Aribo, his supposed replacement, was out of position. This allowed Wolves a completely unchallenged cross field pass. Stephens, was surely the natural fit to stand in for Downes with KWP switching to left back and Sugawara on from the start. The VAR mess was shameful. Disallowing a good goal and then inconsistently not reviewing the same incident. I'm leaning towards us only losing a point on this game tho as we had no other shots on target! I am resigned to relegation now unless there is a wonder appointment waiting in the wings. Half of me thinks if there is improvement in how RM sets the team up and adopts a more pragmatic style of play then we should keep him. He's proved to be a good Championship manager. However if he can't or won't do this then it probably is time for a change. COYR |
| News Comment | Graham Potter Ready To Return To Management at 11:01:19
This is clearly a 'come and get me'. Really like this to happen but unless we are already talking to him, someone else Everton/ palace will jump the gun and offer big money. They both are unfraid to spend pay high wages, have better squads and Everton have a brand new Stadium to show their intention to invest big. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Arsenal The Verdict at 10:18:14
I thought of the three Arsenal goals the first was a great strike after an enforced error, the second was offside, the 'non interfering' player was right infront of Ramsdale and the third Sugawara should have done what Rice had done just a few minutes earlier booted the ball into row z as soon as he had possession. With the data analysis teams and international players in the PL, possession football is a failed strategy for us at this level. Bournemouth and Arsenal both admitted they knew exactly what they were looking for in our play and targeted it. Teams have found us out and know how to play it. RM needs a drastic rethink. Given we were all half expecting a major drubbing, I was quite positive after the game. However results have to improve. If we are nowhere after the next 5 games, reluctantly I think it will be time to change the manager. Positives from the game, Aribo and Fernandes and Archer getting off the mark, Tall Paul also sold some great dummies. RM needs to pick a back 5 and stick with it now. COYR |
| News Comment | Southampton V Arsenal The Preview at 12:50:50
Saints' fans are never too far away from a make or break game. If only one of our many strikers would come into form, I think there might be a rapid change in attitude. COYR |
| News Comment | Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict at 15:12:57
Think we need a rapid assessment of who, has the ability to play in the PL and is also up for the challenge and then play them in their correct positions. Whether this is from a new manager or RM gets the message from last night's abject display is beyond my pay grade. COYR |
| News Comment | Big Big Game For Russell Martin At Bournemouth at 13:47:10
Yes Martin may get the sack but I think, unless there is an alternative already lined up, that after 6 games would be far too early. Those that don't like Martin, didn't like him last year and despite celebrating going up were never going to give him much time in any case. Staying in the PL for a newly promoted side is always going to be tough. I have seen enough improvement over the last 2 games to believe he deserves more time. However it is football, so we shall have to see what happens. Hopefully 3 points and a chill pill for most of our fans. COYR |
