I used to go to Griffin Park about 1957 and there was a huge neon lucozade sign overlooking the ground. I remember a crowd of 20k for an amateur cup semi final (Barnet v Woking). They bumbled along in the old 3rd Division South and then announced their "First Division in 5 years" plan which involved splashing out on big names and ultimately led to running out of money and the QPR takeover scheme. |

For those with longer memories, the diminutive Alan Spratley didn't fare too well. |

Dyrham Park, where they filmed most of Remains of the day, is just a short bus ride away, especially if you are on the lookout for a retirement property. |

He was virtually unplayable on the bread pudding of a pitch at the Oval in 68 after the spectators had come on with blankets towels and hairdryers to dry the outfield. What did Boycott say about him? The face of a choirboy and the ruthlessness of a rat catcher? |

When I was there we had a fabulous Airbnb with a balcony overlooking the parliament and square which we used to sit on for hours at a time. There was a protest anti Orban group who used to set up in the square and get cleared out by the police every so often and we spent some time talking to them. When we were EU citizens all bus tram underground and boat travel was free for over 60s in Budapest . Yet another of life's pleasures that we have stupidly renounced. Despite this it is a marvellous city. Visit the market and check out the holocaust memorial of shoes on the river bank. |
| Forum Reply | Stan's team mates that were in attendance last night... at 14:05 8 Mar 2024
It was very poignant to see Dave Thomas with his guide dog. To me seeing Thomas storming down the wing in full flight (god he could motor!) was as enjoyable as watching Stanley drifting past defenders as if they weren't there. What a wonderful team that was. Gordon Jago (still alive and well) deserves most of the credit for creating that team. Sexton just added some expensive ballast. Gordon gave us Bowles, Givens and Thomas for £300K, and we only got Thomas due to Martyn Busby's tragedy. He also gave us Terry Mancini, the vertical header specialist, for £25k! |

First visit was 59. No idea who against or the score. All I remember was our centre forward was George Whitelaw who was a real thug. Anyone remember him? |

Jim Gregory's dastardly scheme to merge with Fulham to form Fulham Park Rangers or Hammersmith Flyovers or whatever not being scuppered. Where would we all be now if that had gone ahead? |

In the days when there was an England Vs Young England game the night before the cup final, saw Langley totally taken apart by Peter Brabrook. |

Ian Gillard. His right leg was only there to stop him falling over. No pace. How he ever got into the England team amazed me, until he was cruelly exposed by some speedy foreign winger. Dave Clement exuded class, had a cracking shot yet gained fewer caps. |

Not true. It is a "state owned private company". It is 100% owned by the Government. |

Some credit to James Arbuthnot the Tory MP who listened to and supported the postmasters throughout. Absolutely no credit to anybody in the coalition or government, the Post Office or especially Fujitsu. Like the Windrush Scandal, Hillsborough and now this those governing us are broadly corrupt, mendacious and incompetent. I originally thought the Post Office had been privatised but in fact it is wholly owned by the Government. This programme made my blood boil. Time for a revolution. Where did I put my tumbrels? |

I lived in Teddington as a boy and I am old enough to remember our milk being delivered by horse and cart. The milkman's name was not Ernie, but I do remember the horse getting up on the pavement to nibble the shoots of our lilac tree, to the consternation of passers by. |

The main thing to love about him is that he is the complete antithesis of Ainsworth. |

The tube map has the apostrophe and also favours Regent's Park. However it is shown as Barons Court so there was presumably more than one baron. The apostrophe is a bit of a nuisance when texting but I think it should stay to keep the fusty traditionalists happy. |

Mick Leach Targeted by the boo boys for years but won everybody over in the end through sheer hard work and determination. |

Frank Clarke. Proper centre forward. Tough and reliable. Also agree re Martin Busby. Pure class who would have been a real star but for his horrendous broken leg. The only time I have actually heard the crack of bones breaking at a game. |
