Well we should be arsed. If we are getting 2,100 at home each week the club isn't really going anywhere is it? We will never be able to support a League 1 team for a sustained period with our current supporter base. Too easy to say "we are in the shadow of Man United". If that is the excuse then we may as well just give up now. Is our aspiration simply to survive or do we actually have a plan to take the club forwards? |

It's not just the increased numbers through the gate. Shrewsbury, Rotherham and Chesterfield built their facilities with the specific intention of running a successful commercial business using facilities at the ground 365 days a year. In fact the guy that invested in Chesterfield's ground (Sheffield weds ex chairman) has a background in corporate events, catering etc. and was courted over c.15 years specifically to come and build a commercial business. On top of this you have the increased matchday revenue from catering etc. For example, I believe both Rotherham and chesterfield have sold out their VIP lounges for every league game played at the new grounds since their inception. All three of these clubs have focused on increasing customer spend on the day too, for example, opening the councurses early so fans can come and watch the early sky kick off on screens under the stand whilst spending money on booze etc. A bit of digging into company accounts revealed chesterfield turned a small profit last year at the same time as making loan repayments to their chairman for the part of the ground that was funded by a loan from him. Reportedly they have a similar wage budget this year to last so hardly sounds like they are over spending... |

Agree on the Fleetwood and Portsmouth front but as far as I know Chesterfield operate a pretty sustainable ship and don't have massive amounts to chuck around? |

It makes me question your maths. Home end sold out there for both Burton and Bradford games, total attendance over 11,000 for both, ground holds 12,000 not quite sure where the confusion arises. |

And yet there are 8 teams in league 2 with an average attendance of over 5k this year - http://itv.stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D3/attend.html Bradford, Rotherham, Plymouth, Oxford, Bristol Rovers, Gillingham, Port Vale and Chesterfield. Total Football League attendances in the last 3 years have been pretty much flat having risen consistently and substantially since 1995 ish. It's time to stop complaining about being part of an imagined larger trend in falling attendances and start taking responsibility for addressing the issues impacting our own club. Other clubs have proven they can do it |

His former clubs have also been raising money independently on his behalf, I think chesterfield managed about £2,500 at a game earlier this season. I hope we at least bothered with doing something considering he was a Dale player at the time.... |

The comments on there are made by local BBC pundits. If you read through the rest of the clubs there are set to be 24 teams in the top half and about 10 going up automatically. The bookies are generally more reliable for a prediction and have us finishing below mid table...... |

Don't get me wrong, there is a very loyal core (as most teams have). However RAFC have done very little to attract additional supporters to home games making the loyal core an ever increasing percentage of the total support |

Kind of a shame a lot of it is driven by us having the worst (and falling) home attendances in the division.... |

Mark Crossley (currently Tommy Lee's coach) had agreed terms to go and be Birmingham's GK coach but Birmingham couldn't agree compensation with Chesterfield for him so fell through |

Huge difference in spending power based on them having an average gate of 7,000 plus all non matchday revenues from a new ground / revenue generating commercial organisation. Our gates are mid league 2 level at best. Therefore without a significantly better manager than other teams on average that is where we will end up until a step change in ambition / commercial functionality is achieved. But yes we need to do better than Macc strikers |
