A draw or win for both of these teams would make next week very interesting from a neutral point of view. We need a local fixture next season so either Dale or Oldham would do. |

Not sure how you can really put Bury in the bracket of ‘making a big deal’... we haven’t taken 2,000 fans in the league to Spotland since 2013.. our horrendous head to head record doesn’t help. Oldham fans have been devoid of any genuine derby matches over the years so they must just be getting giddy. If you start playing Oldham every season for the next 15 years as you do vs Bury I’m sure it will settle down. |

The town really isn’t that big James. The atmosphere will be flat, so don’t worry about trouble. It’s a very straight forward walk to the ground along the Manchester Road. |

There will be more atmosphere in the Cemetery behind the stadium I imagine!
If Dale lose to Shrewsbury on Friday I can see it being a terrible crowd too. A shame that your first derby experience will be such a flat one! |

Rochdale fixtures at Gigg Lane in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 season attracted away followings of around 2,800... with total crowds around 6,500 and 7,500. Both League Two fixtures.
What happened? Rochdale have taken at least 1,572 (2015) as their best following to Gigg Lane in the last 8 years since. |

Always a silver lining... if it does get called off there's a game going on 5 miles west. An originally postponed fixture funnily enough.
Given all the money that doesn't filter though the leagues.. would it be a fair suggestion to call for the FA to give lower league clubs funding to improve the quality of the playing surfaces?
The two Manchester giants have impeccable pitches yet every other pitch in GMR resembles a farmers field. It's detrimental to both the quality of the games being played but also the physical wellbeing of the players.
Also has other knock on effects such as lower crowds as people don't want to watch a mud fight for 90 minutes. |

Taking an interest in the FA Cup, I was doing some browsing ahead of tonight's fixtures. Just seen the state of the Rochdale pitch via a few photos from yesterday afternoon. Wow, I've never seen a pitch as bad as that. Clearly, work has been done on it hence the holes but there's barely a blade of grass on it and the surface is incredibly uneven. |

As someone who went to last nights event.. Day said the £60M deal concerns a development in London.
He then told myself the same story 10 minutes later but used a £50M figure, so make of that what you will.
Day talks a good game, we all know that. As a result some are drawn into his imagination. I for one remain far from convinced considering his track record of failed plans.
He claims our youth academy can keep is going for years to come, with him turning down £1M for 3 youth players recently and Watford have put an unsuccessful bid in for someone who hasn't made a first team appearance.
The CCJ questions were quickly brushed aside by conman Glen Thomas. One man who spoke up and demanded answers on the financial side was immediately shot down and insulted by numerous members of the audience.
Day talks a good game, time will tell if he's telling the truth I suppose. He said he regretted the 5 year plan idea and made sure to re-affirm numerous times that he's here for the long run. Debts secured against Gigg Lane are guaranteed by one of his other ventures. Red herring if you ask me. |

A tad dissapointing then, considering it was a summers evening and Rochdale were on good form at the time.
However, psychologically to a floating fan I think there is a big difference between 'free entry' and '£1 entry'.
A re-arranged Tuesday night game against Southend is going to be poorly attended. Given Southend are currently struggling it's a winnable fixture for Dale. Free entry as a one off could create a buzz in the town, it's a fairly unique opportunity to watch a live match for free.
Advertise a free match around town, get it broadcast on the radio etc.. get the stadium in top condition beforehand as to not discourage any floating fans from attending again. Good PR for the Dale, and if you get a vital win infront of 6,000 it could be the tonic the club needs to give it a lift.
I also now recall Oldham doing a free match against Peterborough last season on a Tuesday night, the crowd was around 7,500.
It would be a great opportunity for the local pubs and club bars to cash in too, the club could put some drinks offers on or perhaps a discount on food to claw back some lost revenue and take advantage of the increased crowd. When people haven't paid for admission they are likely more willing to spend a few pounds on food and drink.
