Might work in away games but not at home. Canas did Leon's job and I've never see Leon look so 'unemployed' in a game at home before.
Looks like Leon, Canas and Ki are all vying for that spot in front of the back 4.

After a dodgy first few minutes when he looked off the pace and got booked for a ridiculous lunge I thought Canas was superb considering he's new to the team, more dynamic than Leon, driving forward and committing oppo players more than Leon does, yet still moving the ball on in good time. Early days of course, and I remember a certain Germaine Augustien had a good game against this lot at home last season and well, you know...
Don't think Leon was that redundant though, he still did a good job with plenty for them both to do. I think Ki and Canas would work well together, both very 'busy' players who'd compliment each other, although I can't see that combo starting many games with Michu/Jonjo/JDG around. I said in another thread that I didn't think they could play together. leon has freedom to roam, he goes where he's needed, Canas does the same. Sometimes it left gaps.
Canas played well, if he keeps it up Leon will have a fight on his hands. I'd like to see Canas, Shelvey and Ki start on thursday.

Key to Leon's play is that he finds space to receive the ball and is always available. On Saturday Canas was finding that space first. Interesting decision to be made by ML which may upset many on this board. |  | | |

And both gave the ball away needlessly that cost us a goal.
For my money, (based on the very limited time I've seen Canas) Canas has much better distribution than Leon but Leon reads the game better so will break up play more efficiently.

So did I and I was sat 50 yards away. Hopefully Chico will have a word. But in fairness he didn't come close to a second, calmed down well. Canas is Leon's long term successor, and he showed that he can compete with the best in this league. We have this DM position well covered for quality. |  |

I'm shocked people are writing Leon off.
Think a few people on here have got new player syndrome. Yes early signs are that Canas could be a top player but he gave the ball away a fair bit (including for one of their goals) and he does not read the game like Leon.
IMO he's got a fair way to go before he brings the same structure and second ball recovery Leon does. |  |
