Bridge to Reading apparently... on 12:46 - Jun 7 by Jamie

From what has been reported and TFs interview on SSN, I can't believe its a case of no-one in until some go out. If HR put a deal for Dwight Gayle for example infront of TF on sensible money I'm sure it would be signed off. If he wants an aging third LB on big money though, he needs to move an aging player on big money on first.

Seems fair enough to me.

"Young is good, old is bad" is an extremely naive and simplistic interpretation of how the club needs to learn from its mistakes. We have six capable strikers and two decidedly iffy left backs as it stands - as much as I like the look of Gayle and support the ideology his signing would signal, Bridge would remain the more important addition in my view.

I must stress that if Bridge was asking for 25k a week and a big signing-on fee or whatever then I agree wholeheartedly with the board for blocking it. But if he's gone to Reading instead I don't believe that's the case, which means we've cut our nose off to spite our face.

Melaka, Pommy, Brian, adhoc...exactly.

My "27" yrs thing was arbitrary...but I wan making the point that you need to have clear parameters around who you're signing from the long term financial stability of the club. And I was talking about signings....not the squad. We've already got enough old boys in my book.

Ryan Nelson, Tony Currie, Ray Wilkins... dont have to be under 27... oh and add Derry, Clink etc. Harry has said it and I agree... want players who will play for the team and as part of a team. If they are young and can develop, all the better, but it is rare for QPR to raise the value of a player these days.

It's rare because we haven't tried to 'buy low sell high' for a while.

And you haven't bothered reading my posts properly. I'm not saying 'old is bad'. I'm saying a desire to play for QPR and give everything is key. You are more likely to get this from aspiring players who've not played at a higher level/bigger sides than us and who see QPR as a great opportunity (think Trev, Sir Les, Sinton, etc).

Older players are more likely to, but not restricted to, be less motivated and on the wind down if they've 'been there done it'.

Clearly they're exceptions BUT if you want to change culture and reduce the chance of signing those who are just on a last past day, focusing on young, hungry players is the key.

Fair play to TF, I wouldnt touch bridge with a 10 foot bargpole
He has always been about the dough and was shat at west ham
Fulham, man city and last season probably found his level
For me this is a lazy signing by HR as he is a "name" he knows
HR should be out scouting younger hungry players but he cannot
Be arsed,
I said the other week on the Deighton Gayle thread he would go
For the likes of,dunne,Saha,yakubu etc
I hope TF stands firm on this

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Its balance though, and also position. Experience and age is useful through the spine of the team, However I'm not so sure at fullback or wide midfield.

Reading look like a team who are capable of getting back into the Premier League, a team that works hard for each other," added Bridge.

cant argue with that

what can we say about our own team

bunch of overpaid over rated money grabbers who dont give a fig about the team and are only concerned about their next pay day

Absolutely - balance is exactly what I'm arguing for. I don't want a side of mercenaries on their last payday any more than anyone else, but nor do I want a team of kids left to get eaten alive in the Championship just to prove a point. It won't be good for them and it won't be good for the club. Developing a progressive culture takes time.

Regarding the left back spot then Bridge's age didn't do him any harm last season. Matter of fact we got promoted playing Hill there out of position relying entirely on his nous and experience. All about the right blend.

By the way if people think it's so easy to find a good cheap young hungry left-back then they should name them.

The only one I can think of right now that I'd definitely prefer to Bridge is Tommy Rowe at Peterborough.
