I'm talking off the field stuff here, but if Dale were to almost relaunch itself for the 2013-14 season, what improvements would you like to see happen?

to pay £12 to watch a game of second divison football for a start
have to admit that the cost per game is now a top priority, being an exile that does not qualify for the season ticket offer, and given my lad is now 17 the match day cost is £40ish which has made me miss a couple of games for the first time in years when they have been home games 2/3 in a fortnight.
i do think the young persons charge needs to be looked at,especially for those still in education, and maybe something which has been used for pre season games buy 2/3 games get one free half price could be introduced?

totally agree
Definitely. I've said it before on here but I take my 11 year old newphew to quite a few home and away games. He loves it, but its too bloody dear! I'm a season ticket holder in the sandy so don't have the option of a family ticket. In fact it often works out cheaper to take him to away games. The club won't lose out much as like most kids he's a greedy shit and wants food and pop buying every ten minutes. He actually had a free ticket a few weeks back for the Main Stand, the club wouldn't exchange it for the Sandy, and it being the run up to Xmas me and his mam were skint. He missed the game and the club missed lost revenue on food, drink, programme, merchandise that day

What reason did they give for not allowing an exchange?

Surely when a fan points out they have a season ticket in a different stand, thus the child needs one for there too, common sense prevails?

The club need to accept that the football itself isn't enough to entice new spectators to Spotland and need to consider new ways of marketing and publicity to increase revenue. This needs to include targeting our future generation, talk to them!
Coach needs to have other pick up points such as the town centre, Spotland isn't convenient for all.
A presence in the town centre, particularly in the run up to Christmas or a big game. If a stall can sell calendars surely the club could?
Am sure all of this has been mentioned before though. Several times.
Agree with this and isitme's post.
We have to some how make the Football club the centre of the community.
Rochdale as a town is know for very little on a positive front, but at least the football team creates an outside interest.
This however would mean a lot of the stalwarts who profess to love the club having to accept 'new fans/glory hunters' rather than treating it as their own private club.
On many levels we are no longer the most welcoming of clubs, thats perhaps why we are where we are!
Everything thats been, has past. The answers in the looking glass!

Personally think the club should seriously look to bring in a loyalty card scheme. A simple card scanner at turnstiles could be installed and fans could then accumulate points when attending games which could be redeemed for discounts in club shop, tickets, pies etc. The club can then build an accurate picture of who attends games and design better targeted marketing strategies. Incentives such as double points for attending less attractive/midweek games could be advertised. The club could even link the scheme up with local businesses. Seems a no brainer to me and probably more beneficial than spending cash on a decent pitch cover.

I'd imagine the problem with online ticketing (which I'm all for) is how do we implement it without it being just a gimmick. It works brilliantly at Colchester and Chesterfield, but they have the advantage of a brand new stadium, and have created turnstile system that thrive on online ticketing.
At Dale, we have regular turnstiles, and no queues, and many would then argue, that online ticketing would simply be for the sake of it, and quite possibly a more complex system than is currently in place. Unless we shell out a small fortune on redoing our turnstiles to have barcode entry, would your average fan pay for his ticket online, visit the ticket office to collect it, then go to the turnstile when they can simply just turn up at the turnstile?
Of course, getting an online set up would create so many possibilities, such as tracking supporter attendance habits and allowing marketing to be made in the specific areas plus countless others. I reckon between us we could come up with 100 advantages with such a scheme, but getting the fans to buy into it would be the biggest stumbling block.
I think the only way that the club could push this would be to introduce one of those schemes where admission at the turnstiles rises by £2 on the day. Always hated them schemes, but I think that might be the only way of pushing it through.
Missed the boat over the last two years when we had multiple all ticket no sale on the day games - so our attendences were less than they would have been with on line ticketing.
On line ticketing goes hand in hand with reserved seating because it gives the supporter the opportunity to select his (and his mates) seats. But that is something else this club has resisted for over 100 years.
If online ticketing was such a gimmick for clubs like us why do so many other clubs like us have it?
Again we seem to be looking for reasons why not to do things - clogs, shawl, whippets, park drive, little Rochdale . . . . .

1. Increase the size of the Board and give individual Directors responsibility for aspects of the club (a couple of supporters Trust Directors would be a start).
2. A clear message from the board about their concept for the club over a 10 year period including youth policy, transfer policy, management policy, financial targets etc. And an unswerving commitment to high quality customer relations.
3. Create a plan (and execute it) to double the value of all off-field activities within 12 months — Gold Bond, raffles, shop, hospitality sponsorship, etc.
4. Address the increasingly tatty looking exterior of the club, the match day experience, missing floodlights, crappy sound system etc. etc.
5. Move into the 21st Century with regard to the use of internet ticket booking, direct contact with supporters vie social media etc.
6. PR — It would be good to have some, it would be brilliant to have lots!
7. Open a shop in the town centre and close the one at Spotland except for tickets etc on match days.
8. A flexible ticketing policy which rewards regular attendance similar to a season ticket but paid for match by match (online of course).
9. A comprehensive policy for acquiring new supporters from primary schools up to workplaces including pre-match entertainment, on-site visits, repeat vouchers, inclusion in supporter contacts, existing supporter referral rewards, (bring a mate and save a fiver) etc. etc.
10. A full remodelling of the club’s “brand” including a once and for always strip, ideally in an easily recognisable colour/s which is then reflected in artwork, letterheads, décor, website, logo, mascots, shop, merchandise, Christmas cards, calendars. Blue, sadly does not represent excitement!
"1. Increase the size of the Board and give individual Directors responsibility for aspects of the club (a couple of supporters Trust Directors would be a start)."
Perhaps each director having a member/couple of supporters trust directors to work along side. This way they would have a workstream into the board, but without being present at the board meetings, which will never happen (though perhaps quaterly, the trust members were invited in to update on their project/workstream).
Everything thats been, has past. The answers in the looking glass!

Your last paragraph is bang on! Things won't change though until people in charge of these areas within the club are either replaced or given some direction from above, ideally both these things need to happen.

'We will also see a complex new ticket system which will allow supporters to take advantage of discounts as well as being able to purchase multi-tickets or simply a single ticket all online'
That was 2008! So basically we spent money on something designed to do what we are all asking for, and it's been sat there for 5 years not being used to full potential, more money down the drain it seems.

Was that not all down to Keytech and a certain director who wanted to take a cut on all addmission on the system - threw his toys out of the pram and turned off the clubs internet facilities when he decided to leave.
I guess thats why it never happened - only off memory so if any off the facts or the company named is incorrect - they have my appologies and no liable intended - I may just be diluted.

That the ticket was allocated for one stand and one stand only and free as a good will gesture. I tried to make my point we'd spend money anyway but no luck! I'm not going to shell out another £20 for a game I've paid for anyway am I now?
They need to think about the kids thoogh, they're the future. It was peanuts, or seemed it, for me to watch as a nipper!

That is beyond ridiculous.
The club should be incredibly concerned at such a situation.
