Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere but according to the last part of this Sky article Holness is on trial with Burton.....

Thompson is a confidence player too and benefits from a decent run in the team.

Thompson's best spell of form came in 08-09 as part of a revolving front four with Dagnall, Adams and Buckley. It was the run when he got a hat-trick at Aldershot, but even then it only lasted a few games.

Struggling to think of another sustained period of good displays.

Not sure about that. It's that he can't point to contributing enough over the last 5 seasons.

Thompson is the best header of the ball we have at the club, would like to see him play up front, with Grimes/Donnelly/An-other, an get some crosses into him and I feel we'd see a different player, out wide he looks lost.

Life is a game of fate.

Totally disagree, he's too soft/weak especially against a big strong rugged league 2 centre half, another player who's far to reliant on form but his performances have never warranted a continued run in the side

People used to say Thompson was our best header when we had that Dawson chap playing for us.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Rightly or wrongly, Holness' form was reliant on confidence. When confident that the manager rated him, he played well. When confident within the system he was playing, he played well. When confident in the players around him (and who he was passing to), he played well.

All of this was done at League 1 level. In fact his only consistent run in the side came at the higher level.

Think this needs editing.

I didn't mention that he kept Josh Thompson on the bench for the season?
