this season - what went wrong? (n/t) 21:33 - Apr 12 with 3148 viewsRoChDaLe

in my oppinion the difference last season and this season wasn't so much the actual team it was the fact there was a lack of passion and fight and a little bit of quality wasn't enough! anybody else think different?

As I've said elsewhere, we've discussed what went wrong at length throughout but for what it's worth:

* Hillcroft leaving
* The board trying to replace Keith Hill with another young, inexperienced manager
* Days after Eyre was appointed, Hill came and took Wiseman, Done and O'Grady
* Poor pre-season
* Decent signings on paper didn't prove to be successful
* Keeper situation not dealt with properly and left too late
* Chris O'Grady never replaced
* Trying to play the same system as last season without the players to do so, I.E nobody who can cross a ball and trying to play Grimes out wide or up on his own
* Defence shocking for the majority of the season
* 20 loan signings
* 17 loan signings not good enough
* Used 38 players this season
* Eyre not being sacked after the Bradford game
* Beech given too long
* Coleman not brought in early enough

Probably missed some but they're all massive contributions as to why we are where we are.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

The support this season has been far more positive than it could have been.

Very few games have seen a real negative reaction towards players or managers.

Us supporters can take all the credit for the previous 4 1/2 seasons then!

Losing Hill and replacing him with someone not up to the job, losing two of our best ever players in Dawson and O'Grady and replacing them with bags of crap.

17 loan signings not good enough? So that leaves Darby, Long, and Kurucz? I'd add Temitope and Ball to that list.

No burgers available all season in the main stand snack bar. (Wasted coupon)

Smaller drinks at increased prices

Shite music at every game - without exception.

(Some) Stewards who think they can treat people like turds

Not winning the Golden Gamble for another whole season

Pete Woodhouse wearing Keith Hill's initialled coat every week (What's that about ?!!)

Seeing Chris O'Grady play at Spotland for the opposition. That REALLY hurt.

Oh yes, and many of the players weren't up to the task, and lacked the hunger required to WIN.

The squad was and has not been good enough at any time of the season. We have lacked a goalkeeper and striker all season. Only when Long has played have we had a commanding centre back.

Ball's second spell was awful. He did absolutely zero. He did ok in his first spell. And Temi has done ok. Neither loan signing has been good enough. Loans are supposed improve your team, quite considerably, these two haven't for me.

It'd be easier to ask the question "what went right?"

2 games versus Bury and 1 versus Oldham.

Erm, that's it.

Perhaps QPR and Preston away might sneak into that category..

dale had their chance to solve the GK problem but as usual they where to slow so he went off to the seaside to sit on the bench.

Keith Hill releasing Owain Fon Williams was a bit of a blow in hindsight, especially as he didn't stick around to see the goalkeeping mess that ensued.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Also agree with Bart about Owain Fon Williams. Not sorting this situation until Jake Kean came in gave us a massive problem early on. Then even Kean proved not to be good enough.

We had two trialist keepers in Howard and Duke, Lucas on trial but left and then came back. Three keepers during pre-season, then Kean on loan, wasn't good enough and we've since used three other keepers.

I guess what that tells us is that SE's idea of what makes a goalkeeper was as shite as his idea of what makes a centre-back, midfielder or forward.

I'd pre-empt Dale_Iain's point about what went wrong (beginning with S...) with the letter K and ending in eith Hill.

Whilst SE's appointment proved to be a disaster of Titanic proportions for the Dale, KH was the iceberg that holed us amidships.
