Seeing Clive empty the Tesco Direct of their Peroni suggested this might have been more vicious.

Thanks Clive, completely agree with the assessment - frustrating as fark.

Albert Einstein: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

You could try a CBD bath bomb and a rubdown down with the Sporting Life next time (because we know that is also a known, known). Far less stressful than a trip to an ‘Island’ Tesco, where even the instant coffee is protected by plastic cases embedded with GPS.

I have a question (for everyone) about Marti’s cross hammer hand signal - anyone have a clue what it means ? Comes out late in the game when we are chasing our tails. Seems to be aimed at Cook but related to Dunne playing up front.

Maybe he’s just a closet Iron and hoping to get some attention from Sullivan but I guess it’s a desperate action. I’ve seen the players do it occasionally before corners too but given how shit most of them are I’ve written any logic or connection off.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Could not find an online picture of the coffee GPS but the article sums it up fast enough.

https://www.retail-insight-network.com/news/grocer-secures-high-priced-coffee-tr

The GPS tracker probably costs the same or more than the coffee so I suspect it’s like a fake alarm box you can stick on the house to pretend you have a Yale (just remember to change batteries every 3 years).

I often wonder if we could apply the same logic to Madsen.

Watched the game with my brother in Ireland . Game lost in first five minutes of the second half . Didn’t think Portsmouth did much apart from that but in fairness they didn’t have to.
Some of those pompey challenges made me wince. Referee was incredibly lenient with some of them .
Great support as always and didn’t deserve that result.

15 points clear (effectively with GD)
VERY tough month ahead
Twelve left to play
Three wins needed….. once secured THEN is the time to “experiment”

I didn’t see any of this game as I was too busy enjoying myself but it reads as extremely frustrating. It’s served to extinguish the faint hopes some had of a play off push.
Hopefully Marti has been resting Morgan for the daunting run of March fixtures where energy and mobility will be key.

Anything above sixteenth will do for me.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

"Brave balls into midfield were ignored." And will continue to be until that central midfield is fixed.

Blackburn at home, and what I think has been our best performance of the season, had exactly the same starting 11 as against Portsmouth with one change. Morgan in for Varane.
Says it all.

Excellent report. Agree with it all.

Thanks Clive.

Great report, it was all a very Rangersy away performance, in the charity style we have come to sort of expect. Last 3 away games have almost been a copy of each other.

‘withdrawn after taking an elbow to the face from Dozzell’

A sentence I thought I’d never read.

On the strength of that report, booked a 10 day holiday starting 4th May.

I don’t know how he had time to drink all that lot in a little over an hour on the train, unless he started early in the pointless queue to get into the station, where we saw numerous London bound trains leaving half empty.
And guess who got lumbered sitting behind the bloke(?) who was dressed like a poor version of Lily Savage all the way back to London?

I thought last week we had 4 players have their best game of the season, this week 6 of the team produced their worst and not a chance you get anything when that happens. Steve Cook was so poor at the back, he's looked very ropey since coming back injury

Clive's bang on about the midfield but even with Morgan in there we lose that game imo, the back 4 were all poor, Smyth and Frey offered nothing, it felt like a defeat from the minute they scored.

Cheers Clive - yeah felt like it was going to be a long afternoon as soon as the game kicked off. Pompey's kick and rush very effective, you could see why they do well at home and we didn't fancy it much, plus the ref was happy for them to leave a foot in most of the time.

Agreed on the team selection, I think Marti's got a bit carried away of late. Fine to be more attacking and open at home (for the most part) but away and especially at places like Portsmouth you need a bit more grunt in the middle to earn the right to play.

Decent away support as ever and it's still a great old ground, although the away end facilities leave something to be desired when it's packed out like that; probably not dissimilar to the School End though (albeit an al fresco version...).

On to the next one.

You may think you know nothing Clive but a copy of your report should be sent to Marti (tactics and performance) and Noury (kit).
Btw Marti seemed to be having a right argument with their coach, in the presence of the 4th official, about their 'robust' tackling and probably the lack of control of the official in the middle.

Appalling refereeing. One think I do generally believe, in slight contrast to you Clive, is that referees let far too much go on, partly due to instructions on the interpretation of the laws of the game.
I totally get the letting the game flow desire but it has got totally out of hand.

I watch all our games home in the stand and usually away on a club stream (I'm overseas a lot) and I regularly watch MOTD etc.
I am amazed at some of the things that are considered 'not enough'. For me every shirt pull is a foul (cheating) and should be an instant yellow. Every push in the back is a foul and should be a free kick or penalty. Shoulder to shoulder is fine but not if the shoulder lands anywhere else. Blocking shouldn't be allowed, we are not playing American football.

I could go on with offside, handball etc but start with the above and we will ensure fairer play and help the skilful players and stamp out the cheating and thuggery.

Thanks Clive.

Sounds like we got what we deserved, 'null points'.

Despite the grim reading you still managed to make me laugh with the brilliant line,

'Saito, and later Yang Min-Hyeok, were on the end of artillery fire so heavy I thought Lyse Doucet and Orla Guerin were going to rock up and start covering it ...''

With regard to 'Ilias Chair Module 1.1' teams normally defend against this by having a midfielder or winger close by inside the full back to force Chair across the box if he tries to cut inside. I felt Dunne was left very isolated for the goal especially as Murphy also had the pace to beat him on the outside if he was shown the byline.

In real time watching it, for the first goal it felt like Dunne might have got to the ball first ahead of Murphy had he committed to it, but he held back instead. Probably sensible, but then falling on his arse as Murphy prepared to pull the trigger didn't help much.

Not sure if Nardi's positioning was great either, but then it was a very decent shot which kissed the far post and went in.

Frustrating that improving at home means we have got worse away but that appears to be the reality. Pompey fans not happy with the ref for the disallowed goal and they felt Dunne's goal was more of a foul than the one that ruled a third goal out. Gifting them 6 easy points is hard to stomach seeing they were in league 1 last season.

Closed the laptop down at 2-0 (wouldn’t have done if I was in my own but had a living room full of family celebrating/ dragging my 50th into its second weekend . I love you all dearly …..but you know …Rangers are on) .
But as mentioned by Clive and others , we’d seen this movie before . Bullied by teams bigger and stronger and pressing us into our own corner areas . Just can’t keep the ball at all against those sides and agree that we just rinse and repeat away from home . Same kit , same referee appeasing the home fans , same slow start after half time , but mostly , same wilting under pressure away from home.
Turning it off was the best thing I did so I could pay attention to those that really mattered and to be honest I ain’t given it much thought since .

Onto Saturday

I looked at the Sky highlights and the ball appeared to have gone out for a throw to us earlier in the build up,and if we’d had a stand full of our fans screaming for it,we might’ve been given the decision, but we should’ve done better to try and stop the goal after that.

Spot on review as always. I would say 3 more wins out of 12 games should be more than enough this season. We should... do that comfortably, despite the run of games ahead. Looking forward to perhaps coming higher than 16th which apparently triggers an automatic open top bus parade.

Never knowingly right.

If that was the lino on the far side then he definitely needed a trip to Specsavers he was crap all game

But then all the officials were on Saturday, as they tend to be in this division.

Surprised / not surprised.

They were probably totally spooked by encountering a match atmosphere!

Honestly think a League Two set of officials would do a better job.

That was the one. He(?) turned left once the train doors opened,so I turned right.Next thing I know he’s come back and taken the seat in front of me.
Then he starts playing his music on the phone just to annoy everyone.Just as we were coming into Waterloo he starts shouting and swearing on a phone call he was taking about beating up his nan when he gets back home.
A really strange character, but it takes all sorts to make a world I guess.
