Varane 10:21 - Dec 22 with 3588 viewsbosh67

From lost in space to team pilot. It has taken some time for him to get up to speed but bloody hell he controls the midfield now. His reading of the game is so good now and he plays with a maturity well beyond his years. He seems to absolutely love it as well and has a fantastic relationship with the fans.

Could be a real gem for us. Thoughts?

Never knowingly right.

Yep, thought he has a great game.

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

100%, takes a risk so occasionally gets caught out, but becoming the all-round midfielder we've needed for years,

Probably has highest sell on value of all our players for me, so maybe we're beginning to move in the right direction.

Arguably our most improved new signing, he's getting better all the time (sing along).

I like his first time passing giving players a little more time on the ball, something our other midfielders don't do. I'm sure he'll brush up on his shooting and score a worldy soon. Hayden who?

He is a class above any other central midfielders that I have seen in any opposition teams at LR. I know its like comparing apples with pears but for me he is up there with Barry Bannan for technique.

I remember in one of his first games running back towards our goal and get got pushed off the ball so easily. Suddenly now he seems to win all of his physical battles. Reads it well and when out of position covers the ground so well. Always seems to win the tackle especially the ones where he is stretching. Slowly his distribution is improving. I get the feeling that Marti is the right manager for him as he will make him even better. Also love the relationship he has with his team mates and the fans. Really seems to get the club

Love him.

He is finding time on the ball and is a great competitor out there.

Improving all the time...

Can we go out yet?

I guess it depends on his contract situation and if he stays fit for the remainder of the season but he’s got the right ‘brand’ name, potential and attitude for a step up where the transfer value could be significant.

When you consider what Rice, Caicedo and other CDMs went for not so long ago, he will be on a few radars, especially at lower tier Prem clubs with more limited (but still relatively high for us) budgets.

Crystal Palace, West Ham, Brighton etc.

At times it looks like an overage player competing at a lower level, effortlessly using his physicality to dominate opponents. We're trusing him more with the ball in the build-up which is crucial and you can see he now trusts himself more.

I like how he keeps it simple gliding around the pitch with composure using 2-3 touches to do what is needed to move things along. If he can add some marauding runs through the lines into his game, flapping away peasants as he strides forward, it would really elevate him to the next level (and add to the inevitable highlight reel his agent is compiling).

He is doing OK, much improved but he could not have got worse than when we signed him. He is still making wrong decisions, shooting very poorly, passing can be erratic and not positive enough when he has time and space. I like many of his skills but lets not go OTT about him, he is miles away from the Premiership and some of the players that have been mentioned.

MOM yesterday??, not for me but he did well just like many of the players did & hence why it was a decent performance from the Team and why the 'Crowd was Loud'.

No coincidence that since he came back from suspension that we have looked much more solid. Look at our results when he wasn’t playing. Don’t understand the criticism of a young player in his first season in English football.

Seems a decent lad too

I liked his high five to the kids in the SB Stand and Lower Loft at the end of the game. He seems a little mad.

Football wise, said when we signed him I said he looks like a not as good Patrick Viera, which is meant as a compliment. He has all the attributes to be a really good midfielder.

'... He seems a little mad.'

That is precisely the quality that sets apart a 'decent Rs player' from an 'Rs cult hero'. All the players we end up loving (rather than just liking) are a bit mad.

Aren't we due another nutter about now? Not saying it's Varane but we're definitely short of a certifiable weirdo to embody the insanity of following this club.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

You're so spot on, Dorse. Marsh, Bowles, Taarabt and many more were all 'a little bit mad'. Mind you, derangement generally shouldn't go as far as Diakite levels for reasons of in play health and safety.

I would take Varane over Dozzell and certainly is more up for it than Taylor Richards so what greater compliments could you give to the man !!!

On this basis, can anyone point out some way in which Jimmy Dunne is "a bit mad" (unless playing like Cafu while being Irish and built like a brick sh*thouse counts), because he is definitely in the "love" rather than "like" category.

The comparisons with Alan McDonald stack up for me, and let's face it Macca was pretty eccentric. Please tell me that he insists on reciting a haiku composed in Gaelic before every game or something.

He was not used to the "run run run" of the Champ.

Now he realised if he runs and puts himself about a lot, that matches up to the oppo capability there and then he betters them as he has the skill to put his foot on the ball and win and play it.

If he carries on like this, we should expect bids of £10m plus as Prem clubs love this sort of player. Compare to Tim Iroegbunam (who likes to think of himself as this type of player but isn't) who went for £9m.

Who is better Iroegbunam or Varane? I think it's our Varane.

What more interesting is that Morgan has now made a massive case to be in the middle with Varane and Field. With those three, if Morgan improves will be highly effective in the Champ. Colback will struggle to get back in the team, let alone Madsen who is behind all of them.

zzzzzzzzzz

And if we get through this season intact which i'm confident we will, the summer brings a great opportunity to get rid of dead wood and try off loading those buys that didnt work whislt further adding to those 'winners' already here. No doubt learning from last summers mistakes as the wheels of progression slowly begin to turn.

Gee whizz, enjoy the ride fella. The criticism at the time was warranted. His improved form doesn't change that. Indeed, constructive criticism would've driven him (and others) to improve. If you don't understand it, don't question it.

Makes the decision not to sign Isaac the right one. Younger, with more sell-on value and looking like he will turn into a better player. I assume on a far lower salary as well.

Blimey where’d that come from. I wasn’t aiming at at anyone in particular. However, I’m sure any criticism on here was the reason he improved as you say. 😂

It came from your negativity on several threads in spite of the good form. The fans have been through the mill so let them enjoy the good times without your petty sniping. Now, for Pete's sake, enjoy the ride.

Well I didn’t think I’d been that bad. I just thought he got too much abuse too early. But not really my aim to get in rows on message boards.
