Gorllewin Abertawe Gŵyr on 21:56 - Dec 19 by Kilkennyjack | Westminster wastes billions more than any other public institution. They spend ten times more annually on the English Arts Council than is spent on the welsh language. Lets hear you batter the English Arts council for hospitals not having funding then ? You seem very quiet on that one. I wonder why …..? |
You always fall back on the UK government argument, whilst conveniently ignoring this Welsh governments disastrous rule over Wales. And how you can mention hospitals, with the state the Welsh NHS is in is laughable

Gorllewin Abertawe Gŵyr on 21:46 - Dec 19 by raynor94 | Why I asked, is Swansea is a English speaking City and always has been, are you fluent in Welsh? In all my time through work and socially I've never heard anybody converse in Welsh |
Apart from the outskirts north of Morriston Welsh has never been the lingua Franca of Jacks . Ever. Many dislike the language as they do rugby ,seen as a more Welsh game Swansea was a large industrial behemoth and not a rural idyll or dark valley village where welsh was the mother tongue . It was so because of the relative isolation . It is the case in north wales too where villages in Gwynedd are 100% welsh with people who hate English including those who speak it Uncomfortable fact Anyone wantbto get personal ,DM me but make it good

There are 10 Welsh medium primary schools and 2 large Welsh medium secondary schools in the Swansea area which are very popular. 26000 people in Swansea speak Welsh which is 12% of the population, granted it is a smaller number than the national average but it is not a small number.

I have nothing against that, but I was just pointing out my experience, perhaps things will change in the future

When I worked in Swansea City Centre many years ago, there were always a people around who could speak Welsh. Out of a team of about 65 people, we had at 5 Welsh speakers who’d speak the language amongst themselves when they could and who’d speak it to customers.

My grandfather was born in Swansea in 1904, he grew up in a Welsh speaking house hold and only learned to speak English after he moved to Neath to work in a steel works. Going back 120 years, there was definitely a thriving Welsh language in Swansea,

Gorllewin Abertawe Gŵyr on 20:34 - Dec 19 by ReslovenSwan1 | So is it the cost or the "alienation".? The alienated one are the older people who missed the boat. Times have changed. It is about empathy with your surroundings. Swansea urban people do not have the empathy it seems. The are clear anti Welsh narratives. Anything money spent in Wales is a waste. Londoners do not think like this. For them any money spent anywhere else is a waste. I do not want Wales to be like England and I do not a want the airport and the Senedd to be shutdown. |
It’s about communication with the people Res. If 80% of the people…the voters…do not understand the message then what do you think the outcome will be? Tell you what…..why not try posting all future posts in Welsh. It will be interesting to see how many responses you get. Call it a spot poll. Another thing….do not confuse me as being anything other than Welsh.

No. You cant slag the spending on welsh language whilst uk govt gets a free ppass to spend 10 times that on English Arts Council annually and much else. Its a valid comparison.

Its proportional to each budget .Wales has x amount , England gets x amount to spend .

Is anyone denying it isn’t. What is the matter with you Welsh language haters? Why is it bothering you so much, you don’t even live in Wales, you left here in the 1970’s and can’t be bothered to return. Every time a Welsh language thread appears you come out with the same old crap.

“ you” .Again We’ve been here before. Use the ignore button. It’s clear no discussion is possible with some over “ the language” . The language is loved more than a cuddly new born puppy . It’s pathetic to see grown men acting like jilted lovers . We get this from those of our fans who are born well away from the council estates of Swansea and he glorious terraces of Sandfields where Welsh is seen in a totally different light to those who are from outlying areas . And this site is an English language one .
