Unless Jim and the players are able to find a way we are in for another potential bore fest. Tamworth have no obligation to entertain and following a few early season thrashings tend to set up to frustrate, a method that has brought them some success recently and which inevitably works against our slow possesion based style. To avoid the usual depressing sonario against this type of team surely Jim sees the need to start the game hard and fast and keep going forward even if we are fortunate to score early. For once I would like to see the oppostion defenders have a torrid time instead of sitting back comfortably while we pass nonchalontly around the edge of the area. I would love to be pleasantly surprised but I suppose in all honesty I am steeled for more frustration.

Will Buckley was such a great player. He's never mentioned much when we are reminiscing about our best X1's but he was a joy to watch - one of our few successes to go on and play in the Premier League.

Strangely enough after my post on the D&R match thread I didnā€™t bother with the long journey to Spotland for this. So canā€™t really comment on the game. However it is easy to say the sending off changed the game, they always do. frequently the team down to 10, like ourselves at Gateshead gain more resilience and it can be hard to make the most of the numerical advantage. So credit to the team for comprehensively taking advantage last night.
Where do we go from here, well we are all kept guessing with this team lately.
I was pleased to see Rodders on the scoresheet. Feel MIitchellā€™s time will come if only the team can create a couple of chances for him.

glad that we scored 3 but the lack of goals will, unless addressed, cost us any chance of the play-offs. As a good rule of thumb - the teams looking at promotion average 2 goals a game. The teams facing relegation average 1 goal a game. Anything in between means, well, you end up somewhere in the middle.

So - after 22 games
1st Barnet 46 goals
2nd York 44 goals
3rd FGR 39 goals (off 1 game less)
4th Gateshead 41 goals

At the bottom
21st Braintree 19 goals
22nd Maidenhead 27 goals
23rd Boston 19 goals
24th Ebbsfleet 16 goals

We are on 31 goals scored (or 1.5 a game). Not good enough for promotion, safe from relegation. Maybe we have enough for the play-offs, but as the season goes on I think the lack of goals will see us drop out. And even if we did manage to sneak in, one of those teams scoring much more goals would be more likely to go up IMO.

The issue for me is that we simply do not create enough chances to address this issue, even if the personnel gets changed around and we brought in more forwards. McNulty doesn't seem to know what to have the players do once they get into the final third. The way we play needs to change and I'd be very surprised to see that happen McNulty is stubborn in sticking to his 'philosophy' which like someone else posted reminds me very much of BBM, and we saw how that played out.

Cannot complain about the result especially scoring 3 goals and a clean sheet. The National League table looks a little better this morning.

Tamworth workmanlike (at best) but unlucky not to take the lead 1-0 when down to 10 men.

We will never know if we would have found the key to unlocking the Tamworth defence if they had 11 players on the pitch. It certainly looked hard work breaking them down for extended periods.

Loving 3 points, back in the playoffs and another home game on Saturday to go and repeat the win.

I dont enjoy the tactics, its too slow and laborious and just when you think we will really up the tempo the game slows again. I have accepted its different and i do think every player is committed to the cause and gives 100%. Whether this brings back a few hundred who sit on the fence i doubt but its not changing.

Winning helps... Lets beat Boston and go for another shot at 3 wins from 3 on Boxing day.. something we have struggled to do (Only once?) all season.

Nothing in this league.. with some ruthlessness a playoff spot should be there for the taking.

Wasnā€™t pretty but got the job done. Need to be better though as I feel it could have been a different story without that red card. A better team would have punished us in that game for the lack of ruthlessness infront of goal until the sending off. Keep the ball well just donā€™t do anything with it

Good one Dalenet......yes, a Frenchman on loan from Sunderland (TVOS?) i think we tried hard to keep him here but did n't work out.

That's what we need players that are a joy to watch, we have some here in the building but they are being held back. Express yourself.

Yep, then quickly disappeared.

Only played 4 games under Hill who quickly moved to bring in replacements, first Etuhu and the Muirhead. The latter had a great start to his Dale career before form dropped after signing permanently.

Certainly no ā€œtake it or leave itā€ here. Because it will change again, itā€™s just a question of when. The City implosion and the likes of Burnley and Southampton refusing to change when they arenā€™t even looking like winning could begin to start a reflection period.

It will need the media and analysts to start to provide stats on where itā€™s going wrong for this change to progress.

Given a choice, itā€™d be the Dale side weā€™ve seen at times who look to go into midfield and wide quickly that is the future of the game. However, managers overthink. Ours included.

Credit to Carragher and Jamie Redknapp for starting a real conversation about how playing the same from minute 1 to 90 is becoming a feature across the game, and not in a good way.

Who knows, if this carries on regularly amongst analysis then it might start something.

One of the ultimate idiocies of the system is goalkeepers being picked due to their marginally better passing ability (but still nowhere near professional standard) rather than their abilities as a... goalkeeper

When that's the system and the keeper with the "better" footwork is out injured, the replacement is still expected to pass to under-pressure defenders. The result is pretty inevitable, which is why it was anathema for the preceding 100-odd years of professional football

There's probably been conversations going on behind the scenes, but airing these views in public is refreshing, and likely happening now since Pep's winning ways started to take a downturn

It gets debated to death on Talksport by various ex professionals, pundits etc and the consensus is its absolute madness, as you're continually asking the technically worst player on the pitch to make the most important pass in the most important part of the pitch repeatedly.
