Car Insurance 13:01 - Oct 3 with 6774 views | LoftusR | My 20 year old daughter passed her driving test today. She has already bought a 1.2 ltr Fiesta. Value about £1000 Now she has a full license she can insure the car in her name. Got a first quote via moneysupermarket. Only gave one quote for £7500!!! Got a second quote from Gogirl who specialise in female drivers for £14k. Any bright ideas?

Car Insurance on 13:20 - Oct 3 with 5778 views | ActonExile | Not sure of the exact answer as my Mrs sorted it, but i think it comes down a fair bit if either you or your wife(i am assuming your both male and married but if not my apologies) can go on her application as a named driver if you have built up no claim bonuses. Also, You(or spouse) may be able to insure the car and put your daughter as a named driver. Hope it helps.

Car Insurance on 13:23 - Oct 3 with 5760 views | timjones | Hi Go to moneysavingexpert.com for a few tips. This is a Martin Lewis website and has saved me money over the years. Provided that you have a good history add yourself plus your wife (?) EVEN if you don’t plan to drive the car. It’s still expensive but pretty sure you’ll bring the price down a lot.
Car Insurance on 13:33 - Oct 3 with 5719 views | qpr1976 | You can almost see why there are so many uninsured drivers on the road these days. No excuse, I know it's protecting other drivers with more costly cars if you hit them. But £7.5k or £14k to protect a £1k investment. Madness.
Car Insurance on 13:54 - Oct 3 with 5663 views | Benny_the_Ball | Those quotes are obscene but sadly reflect the times we live in. I'm unaware of a silver bullet option but there are several things you can try to bring the cost down: (1) Add experienced drivers with clean records as additional drivers on her policy. (2) Look for quotes starting at least 23 days in the future. Looking for a quote to start asap is usually more expensive. (3) Increase the voluntary excess. (4) If you have an alternative address (preferably a low crime area outside London), use this. These days paperwork is delivered electronically. (5) Experiment with job titles. Some (e.g. administrator) are cheaper than others. (6) Consider getting a quote with black box (telematics policy) and/or restricted mileage. (7) Sell the Fiesta and select a car based on insurance quotes (smaller engine would be a good start). Check the insurance group of a potential car before buying. No offence but new drivers shouldn't be buying a car before checking out insurance quotes. I'd recommend letting insurance drive the choice of car until they've built up enough NCB to buy the car they actually want. In addition, I wouldn't recommend insuring in your name with your daughter as an additional driver. If you do this, your daughter will not accrue NCB so you're just pushing the problem down the road. Moreover, if you already have insurance on your own vehicle then you can't use the same NCB for another car. If you're not using another vehicle then you're putting your NCB at risk if she has an accident (unless you pay extra to protect it).
Car Insurance on 13:58 - Oct 3 with 5660 views | Paddyhoops | Get a second job mate . Daughter passed her test two years ago . Cost me a fortune. Black box is the only way to go . Takes price down and it should be cheaper if she’s a girl. Boys drive like idiots so very high for them.
Car Insurance on 14:04 - Oct 3 with 5633 views | hamptonhillhoop | Both my girls got insured with Bell Insurance, who seem to specialise in younger drivers. As said above, black box and limited mileage. Still cost about £1100 for the first year. It may help if you add yourself as a named driver | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Car Insurance on 14:14 - Oct 3 with 5592 views | Toast_R | Cheaper to get Ubers everywhere. Sad mater of fact is, young, inexperienced drivers are far more likely to cause accidents when driving. Must have got far worse in the last two decades. My first car, an Austin Metro heap of rubbish. £650 to insure third party F&F in 1998. Young adults have it bastard tough, trying to own a car, renting property while saving for a Mortgage is almost impossible without parental intervention. [Post edited 3 Oct 2023 14:30]

Car Insurance on 15:01 - Oct 3 with 5462 views | langtoft | Check out Marmalade. My two eldest are with them. You can add the car to your main insurance but add them as drivers through Marmalade (annual, monthly or pay as you go 'packages' of miles driven. And unless I've misunderstood Mrs Langtoft they start to earn their own no claims bonus through their policies. Marmalade provide a tracker and send an assessment through of how they are driving on each trip The PAYG option works really well for eldest as she only drives when home from Uni so you aren't saddled with annual premium. May not be relevant for your daughter but might be helpful for someone else

Legally insurance is for third party claims, which can run into six or even seven figures. You’re not obliged to insure your own loss.

It will. This is what I did when my step daughter passed her test and got her first car me and Mrs Camberley were named drivers for her insurance. It was still relatively expensive but not the stupid thousands of pounds amount it would have been just in her own name and it enables them to build up no claims bonus.

Car Insurance on 15:40 - Oct 3 with 5330 views | LoftusR | As it turns out I am am with Admiral and they have a multi car policy. I was able to set daughter up with her own policy and NCB for just over £2k. Still a huge amount. As mentioned above I did look at insuring in my name and having her as named driver. This was more expensive as my NCB is allocated to my own car. Nuts! Anyway thanks for the advice. I may not have got the absolute best deal but I think it's ok all things considered. I just need her to leave uni and get a job so she can pay it herself😯 Bank of mum and dad rides to the rescue again!
Car Insurance on 15:42 - Oct 3 with 5328 views | Superhoops2808 | Interesting to read this on the day I received my renewal. I have 7 years NCB, a non fault accident this year (hit and run in a stolen car whilst parked up) and a windscreen claim. Full licence with no points for 25 odd years, and IAM certificate too. My Insurance renewal price has risen from £460PA to £1,100PA. I think it is across the board that car insurance has gone through the roof. No idea why but its crazy. I shopped around this afternoon and little difference in quotes on all the comparison websites

Car Insurance on 18:20 - Oct 3 with 5115 views | Lblock | I think you'll find ALL insurance has gone mental I just renewed the insurance for one of my dogs which went up from £245 to £311 I sort of get that this will increase each 12 months as age works conversely against us. What I hear is a booming sector is the re-insure market where policies are basically sold on / traded by risk managers. Mate of ours just been offered a 41% pay rise to jump ship and join his CEO in a new start up and only to work 3 days a week -- he's bloody well paid in any case and this increase puts him on an eye watering amount. As mentioned above - so many people driving uninsured now so risk is higher. So many scammers about and also lots of people engaging in fraud. It's average Joe Public who gets ripped as usual

They text her every day with updates on how she is driving, weather reports i.e. icy /snow conditions and how many reward points she got for good driving etc. Also shows her what her next years policy will cost based on her driving.

I heard that insurance premiums have gone through the roof because of the increase in parts to repair vehicles after accidents. How true that is I don’t know, but my own premium more than doubled this year.I went on compare the market and only paid £272 instead of over £400 that my old company quoted me.And that’s with 14 years ncb and living out in the sticks.
Car Insurance on 21:35 - Oct 3 with 4841 views | Northolt_Rs | My premium more than doubled this year….despite the fact I’ve got maximum NCB etc. So, I switched from the company I’d been with for 20 years to the RAC. Give them a shout - website is dead easy to use.

No. It’s usually about the time you vote the governing party out, especially one that’s been in charge for 13.5 years.
