INS, OUTS, SQUAD UPDATES & LINKS 2021-22 on 21:53 - Jun 7 by blackpooljack | Anything under a mill is as good as a freebie and thats all we'll get, if you want you can argue the toss and split hairs thats your choice Doc but we are rummaging around in the off-cuts box, and none of the players we'll find in there are going to propel us into the PL. |
Anything under a mil isn't a freebie though is it? That's not splitting hairs. That's a statement of fact, unlike what you're trying to sell.

"Free" not in the literal sense, the point i'm making is that as usual the Swans will be scratching round trying to find players that will fill a shirt and cost next to no money like we've done over the past 3-4 windows, there is no way we will be spending anything like what is needed to transform the teams dynamic eg buying a Toney or Buendia we end up getting a Korey Smith or Ryan Manning who have done bugger all in getting us promoted, prices have moved on, what we paid for the likes of Dyer and Williams wouldn't get their agents fee these days, where as the likes of Brentford do go out and spend money on the Toney's of the world we go and get the Whitakers and thats why we are still in the second div this season and and lets see where we are at xmas when having to rely on his goals. Its alright having Scott ti go and uncover some rough diamond but if hes only giving enough money for paste then its all pointless.

Brentford make huge sales to fund their purchases of the likes of Toney though, we have had to steer the ship with huge debts and wages from the Premier League days. I'm assuming/hoping our wage bill is now well under control, but we will still need to, like Brentford, sell to buy. If we do make two big sales this summer and not reinvest any of it back into the squad then questions should be asked though I agree.

The club’s income will drop significantly next season as they won’t be receiving any further parachute payments, in effect it’s a loss of around £15m quid a season. Unless players are being sold, there is no way the club will have money to splash out on £1m transfer fees. Ivan Toney cost Brentford £5m upfront with further add ons taking the costs up to a reported £10m. There is no way Swansea can afford that..

But, but, but INVESTMENT mun! The number of people who would cheerfully see us join the likes of Stoke in reporting nigh on nine figure annual losses or requiring millions per month in subsidy like our eleven fingered cousins to the East is crackers. It truly is.

Buendia cost Norwich only twice what we paid for Whittaker. Pukki was a free transfer. Barnsley made the playoffs with the second smallest wage budget in the division. Brentford have been producing their own assets instead of developing those owned by other clubs. They bought Toney and still made a £50m transfer profit. We only sold Rodon while Liverpool made a mint offloading Brewster.

Players have been sold and will continue to be until the likes of Korey Smith/ Ryan Manning are the benchmark of our future signinings Brentford didnt have parachute payments but neither did they have our debts, if the yanks had done their homework properly in so much as what was needed to keep the club in the Prem then they wouldn't have come out with " the next level " nonesense as they've never intended to invest to take us there, Jenkins is a cùnt for selling to these clowns whose only option now to sell virtually anything thats not nailed down to keep their investment alive and in turn now that the parachute money has dried up we'll start to stagnate as the whole of the playing staff down to academy level gets watered down. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We wont spend the cost of a Buendi thats my point we'll stretch to a Whitaker and the difference in quality is glaring, Pukki had already been a top flight player in 6 countries when Norwich picked him up for nowt so thats not likely to happen again anytime soon

Brentford had been building their new stadium and their ownership debt stands at around £100m based on (a glance at) their latest accounts, a figure that had been steadily rising from around £20m in 2014 when they were promoted to the Championship. They're a £15m/year income club spending way beyond their typical means on fees and wages due to incredible player trading gains and were still not quite "sustainable" in the long term. Will be interesting to see how they adapt to £120m a year basic income and the security of the parachute if they flop.

Our income next season is down £15m so there's nothing to re-invest. Even if what we did last season was sustainable we still need to find money somewhere, make cutbacks, or watch debt grow. The Championship isn't a lucrative league unless you go up or use it to produce your own players to sell on.

Good question. Norwich were entitled to two years of parachute, and Watford three, but both have gone up after one. Solidarity payments from the PL are spread across all 72 EFL clubs, they might get added to that fund? 2x the second year payment is ~£70m. edit: Doesn't get paid. EFL want some of the £83m though. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/04/26/efl-demand-share-83m-parachute-p [Post edited 9 Jun 2021 12:13]

Wasn’t it reported that the parachute payments from Norwich/Watford would be shared within the PL instead? I think the EFL requested it went downwards instead but nothing further was heard.

The fact that it seems like Cooper doesn't know whether to stick or twist, could be unsettling for any players thinking of coming here.

Players won't officially join us until their deals at their current clubs expire at the end of the month. Mostly new scholars and first year pros, but there's a couple of second year pros in there as well. We've signed a few of the trialists from the Sheff Utd u23s game, for anyone who watched that. Kieran Petrie from Arsenal has been known for quite a while. A handful coming in from Chelsea, a lot of London-based players actually. Focus was on finding wingers and defenders to supplement what we have coming through but some talented midfielders in as well. [Post edited 9 Jun 2021 20:32]
