Time to go on 13:53 - Dec 13 by Wegerles_Stairs | And that's exactly what Brentford have done. You will only get top dollar for your assets if you're challenging at the right end of the table - Eze was very much the exception, and one could argue, we could have got £30m for him if we'd had a better season. If we were in the play-off zone now, Bright would be a far more marketable asset. The more we're seeing a successful season as simply being better than three other clubs, the more it will be the case that ambitious players will move on and we won't get the money that we should for them. |
Absolutely correct | |
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Paul Cook is an interesting shout. I did mention Kenny Jackett earlier on although it will never happen with Les at the club which in itself is an issue. Becomes more about ego and pride than what is best for the club. I also thought John Eustace showed some promise in his temporay reign and could be an option on a six month trial. Ainsworth is going to get linked more and more.

Not true in every case Maupay left a mid table Bees side for 18 ++ mill and Jarrod Bowen left a poor Hull side that was eventually relegated that season for 18 ++ mill

Anyone go to the Preston match oooop north last season where we beat them 3-0? Not sure if you noticed during the warm up but EZE was showing a gaggle of player how to score with the inside of your boot at the toe end rather than the side, putting a curve or the ball so the keeper would thing it was going to miss but in fact curved round inside the post. He later went on to score a goal using that technique during that match. We miss that!

What the lazy fella who ambled around, never put a shift in, never tackled or tracked back, was always losing his man... Who was'nt rated as a 10 as highly as Ilias Chair by a large number of our fanbase.... The lad Jermaine Jenas said last weekend on MOTD2 that he puts a smile on his face watching him play...who Palace fans are now raving about... What that fella.......no, we're not really missing him...........

Time to go on 13:23 - Dec 13 by DannytheR | The remit for the QPR job is very specific at the moment. (And to be fair to Hoos, he has made that clear in proper broken record style.) The manager is* primarily* here to oversee bringing through successive waves of players to be sold on for a profit, season after season, with a steady supply of Furlongs topped up once ever few years by an Eze. That was the logic behind buying Dykes - not for him to score 30 goals and get us into the Premiership but for MW and the coaches to get him to the level of being sold for £5-10m in 2 seasons time. (This season, you expect the plan is/was for Chair to go for a similar figure.) The second part of the equation is not to get relegated in the process. None of which is to say that Warburton is the right man for the job (looking more and more like he isn't for the second part of it at least). But *realistically* any replacement is - and should be - able to do the first bit. That rules out - or should do - most of the usual suspects. Fair play to the people who come up with lists of potential managers, but I've not seen one who genuinely looks a good fit for the job. Unfortunately, we're a club on a tightrope. Most steps in any direction are going to lead to us falling off. |
Think you’re summation is actually correct or certainly Les to Warburton to certain sections of the support have interpreted the mission that way. Problem is the second part of the equation should be to get promoted in the process, otherwise what is the point of being a professional football team?

Eze and BOS were superb that second half. And let's not forget we were down to 10 men for the majority of the second half. I miss those days

Unknown to us but not unknown to Warburton who sees the whole squad train most days of the week. We have no idea what happens in training whereas Warburton does. If he thought that starting Kelman, Thomas etc would improve the team then surely he would select them.

I agree but quite a few were saying before Reading game our lack of legs in the CDM area was a real area of concern, particularly after 70 minutes, but again we bring fresh legs on up front when they are more needed in the CDM area, and then ask Bonne to play some totally unsuited LWB position, After 70 minutes, Cameron especially (and LTC to an extent) seem to have drained the battery and need changing, we need to stop the default swapping out of BOS (if playing well as at most effective when defenders tire) and Chair especially, as he can run for 95+minutes no bother.

Fans somehow think that they run the club they support and have a say it what happens. Wake up, you don't. Wait until he grows up, gets a mortgage, has kids etc. Then he'll realise that maybe it's not worth getting so het up about after all. Edit: maybe he just needs to pop his cherry then he can calm down. [Post edited 14 Dec 2020 14:53]

Can’t see Kenny Jackett coming to a club with Joe Gallen whilst Les is here. Kenny’s brother Alan used to work in the academy as well but left when a lot of changes went on down at Harlington. Did seem to be a bit of a cull down there with loads from Tottenham coming in and a lot of the existing staff replaced. Can’t have left the best taste in the mouth.

No. A team with one or more players excelling individually may naturally perform better, obviously, but there isn't an amplifying "shop window" direct correlation. Last five seasons Brentford final placings: 9, 10, 9, 11, 3 (QPR 12, 18, 16, 19, 13) Last five season Brentford transfer income: 23m, 13m, 14m, 30m, 37m (33m this season, 20m Benrahma fee deferred) Brentford extracted the maximum for Watkins and Benrahma primarily because they were in a position to wait for someone desperate to blink. They had the leeway in contract and a mature squad they'd gradually built that didn't need huge renovation reliant on the money they'd get for him. £30m only on deadline day would have killed us, we're still at a stage where we needed to reinvest immediately, the extra profit would have been worthless. You could also point to Peterborough or maybe Crewe here for high value turnover at relatively flatline teams.
Time to go on 11:07 - Dec 14 with 1404 views | rsonist | Ryan Lowe is a hilarious shout in the circumstances btw, can see some of the loudest on here have really thought this through. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/its-roll-your-sleeves-up-4793599 Ryan Lowe has demanded that his Plymouth Argyle players get back to basics quickly to halt their worrying slide down League One. The Pilgrims were punished for their poor defending at corners and their lack of a finishing touch at the other end of the pitch as they suffered a fifth successive league defeat. It leaves them in 16th position in the table, only three points clear of the relegation zone. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/ryan-lowe-plymouth-argyle-keys-4 It is clear that defensively Argyle must get better — much better. They have conceded 15 goals in the last five league games. The Pilgrims’ vulnerability at dealing with corners in the 3-0 defeat by Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday was particularly alarming. Lowe was bemused by it too, given the fact that so much work goes into that aspect of their game in training, yet the first two goals against Rovers came from corners. It appears that Lowe will have to try and find a way of adding a streetwise, experienced defender to his squad in the January transfer window. More resilient, disciplined defending, especially at set pieces, and clinical finishing in the opposition penalty area are the keys for Lowe in turning around his team’s fortunes. A lot the alternatives that have been suggested are uninspired and would not take the club forward. Not much else to say other than we need to be patient and see out this bad patch.
