I have a neighbour who is a social worker, we were discussing this today, she couldn’t bring herself to applaud their efforts to save the economy and jobs.

As you say, the health situation is questionable, I’d lobe to have seen a labour governments efforts and results, sadly, we won’t ever know

Labour would be in same position because e.g. Testing the capacity simply wasn't there.

They might have locked down earlier, who knows? That's literally it really.

In answer to your other point, yep there's some people who will never, ever admit to tories doing anything right. Goodness knows I know these types, they're in my own family.

Sunak is certainly not acting like a typical low tax low spending tory chancellor. What none of us know yet is where this kind of socialist policy is going to take us. The tories for years have criticised the labour party for their huge public spending ideas. That was heavily labelled at Corbyn and Mcdonnell but it is what Sunak is now doing. As far as mistakes there have been so many and things just change on the spur of the moment rather than the methodical approach used in Wales and Scotland. Both have kept the stay local rule and both are now showing lower amounts for new cases and deaths.

There definitely seems to be an "us" and "them" differential between approaches to this. Wales with its higher dependence upon state funded employment has clearly lingered behind other parts of the UK when it comes to opening things up for business as much as possible.

Lockdown means little to people paid by the taxpayer. They get their money anyway. Some poor self employed bastard or employee of a company shuttered for three or four months just wants the chance to earn a living.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

There is a massive difference between huge Government spending in a time of crisis versus huge Government spending in normal day to day operations.

The end result will be much the same. It’ll have to be paid for.

Not that I’m criticising necessarily. Sunak did what has to be done. The irony of the full embracing of socialist principles of sharing the wealth won’t be lost on many though. Actually it probably will.

Yet more job losses today.

But hey corona

400 very well paid jobs at GE in Caerphilly today.

Can we use the soon to be redundant aircraft engineers to build a water pumping station to sell water to the English.

According to the idiots it’s what’s going to turn Wales into the next Monaco.

Sunak is doing what has to be done. He has no choice we'll all pay for it in the future, and as long as we all do I don't have a problem with that.

But once again the new cases in Wales, per capita, are almost identical to the number in England. For most of the last three weeks we have had a higher number.

I know you don't like to admit it but so far the path out of lock down is working in England. Time will tell but their "spur of the moment" changes seem to be working.

If you live in the Welsh Borders and are thinking of moving house buy in England it will save you thousands in stamp duty.

Prior to the stamp duty holiday, the threshold for Stamp Duty in England was £125k, in Wales it was £180k. Given that a significant proportion of houses in Wales cost significantly less than £180k a lot first time buyers, or people trading up will be exempt or pa6 much lower than they would in England. Purchasers of second, third and forth homes etc pay a minimum of 3%.

Today equivalent figures :-
England 30.85
Wales 30.

There may be a few days when England have more cases, it's a bit inevitable as we move out of lock down. Controlling the numbers so they don't increase exponentially is key.

It's not a race to zero cases, that is impossible unless you are New Zealand, and we would be joint last out of the UK in that anyway . It's finding a balance - England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are finding that balance and we aren't -, unless Drakeford has some proper information to give us tomorrow instead of treating us like children who can't be trusted.

There’s no stamp duty for first time buyers in England until £300k and it’s a reduced rate to £500k (normally I mean). So it doesn’t cost more for them.

And the average price of property in Wales is £190k (before this crisis - it’s impossible to say what will happen over the next 6 months or so).

Second homes have a surcharge in England as well.

I guess it depends how the deaths are recorded.

It also depends on if ‘all’ covid deaths are just that!

This is the point, no one really knows until this is all over.

e.g. we might have higher deaths

but another Country might have 20% unemployment which means higher deaths over a longer period of time

We might be recording much better

When this is over there will be an enquiry, we need to learn lessons not encourage cover ups.

It would have been had we not gone in to lockdown, the predictions were 500,000 in a worst case scenario. That said, excess deaths are still high and around 65,000 since mid March through to mid June. I’d say that was pretty bad.

No I’m referring to relaxing restrictions not the initial lockdown

Many on here were talking of a second wave how it was all so irresponsible

Stoke-on-Trent 13.3, 13.3
Luton 13.1, 12.6
Dover 12.8, 12.8
Doncaster 11.9, 16.7
Dartford 11.8, 10.9

Knowsley 11.4, 18.1
North West Leicestershire 10.8, 17.6
Crawley 10.7, 6.2
Eastbourne 10.7, 14.5
Nuneaton and Bedworth 10.1, 11.6
Cannock Chase 10.0, 7.0

I wonder what persuaded you to follow Miss Coleman?

Of course I have complete faith that the death total in countries like China, Russia and Iran are accurate and open to scrutiny.

I'm not defending Boris - he's a bafoon - but the UK probably have one of the most accurate covis mortality figures in the civilised world and that total is heartbreaking.

I'm sorry but I honestly think Drakeford is looking to keep things closed for as long as possible rather than look for safe ways to open the economy. I suppose it is easy when you don't have to pick up the bill. Todays announcement is a joke.

I can't think of a single reason why - with safety measures - playgrounds couldn't open weeks ago. Instead kids have to wait another week.

Inside hospitality has to wait until next month. Yesterday the CEO of the largest hotel in the country made half of it's staff redundant. If that's not a lesson then what is? By next week we'll see what impact opening pubs in England has on new infections, I expect a rise, but if that rise is manageble then why not open them then, perhaps even with more than 1m+ social distancing? The vast majority of pubs aren't openining outside - Drakeford could cripple this industry.

Indoor attractions can open on Monday, but not Museums or galleries, they have to wait another fortnight? Seriously? So I won't catch the virus in the fair in Folly Farm on Monday but I may in Swansea Museum?

Not even a mention of gyms or other sports facilities - so they are likely not to open before August 10th. Some gyms could be opened safely now. This is seriosly harming peoples mental and physical wellbeing and the industrty as a whole. Does he seriously think social distancing will be better adhered to on Wind Street after 8 pints on a Saturday or in my mothers aqua zumba in Penlan leisure centre?

Your hatred of Drakeford is now becoming really unbelievable. Let us start with sports and excercise. People can currently participate in many sports and there was an announcement today that many team sports will be able to recommence so you can go cycling, walking, running, play tennis, cricket, bowls, golf, lacrosse and others. You can have dance classes and out door gym sessions. It is hardly as though people cannot exercise. There are restrictions on gyms due to outbreaks starting in gyms elsewhere but to represent it that people cannot exercise is a total lie.

As far as hospitality there is a report this morning that only 2 people in 10 will feel comfortable going to restaurants indoors at the moment. A few days ago you expressed concern about pubs in England opening indoors. That is the very thing you want Drakeford to encourage.

Todays figures are out 0 deaths 10 new cases of which only 2 are shown as shown in the whole of Mid South and Wales from the Severn Bridge to Pembrokeshire and South Wales to Welshpool. As for your beloved piller 2 cases there will 11 of which 1 relates to 24 April, 1 from 5 May, 1 for 3 July and 8 from 8 July. The 2 new cases in South Wales included 1 each in Cardiff and the Vale and Aneurin Bevan Health Board areas. 14 of the local authorities in South and Mid Wales didnt have any cases and 4 of the Welsh Health Boards also showed no cases.
