Quiz question 11:09 - May 3 with 2650 viewsNotLoyal

A family lockdown quiz yesterday, question was ‘ Which Swansea born professional footballer set a world record transfer fee in the 70’s ‘ I didn’t get it and rules are of course no research or questions. It surprised me.

OK I've changed it.

Who was it?

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Was it Bonnie Tyler?

Unless Johann Cryuff was born in Morriston on the sly I suspect the question may be wrong.

It's probably a record transfer fee for a position, age or tier of football.

How much did Merthyr pay for John Charles? Wasn’t that around the £10 million mark?

I maybe should have mentioned that yes, it’s for a certain position, but a unique one.
My bad as the young people say.

Before my time Monny, but searched out a documentary on him last night, he wasn’t half bad and seemingly only remembered for his mistakes. 200 clean sheets for Leeds in over 550 games ish. Youngest welsh goalkeeper. Sold a story to the mirror about Revie and Bremner match fixing which was confirmed by many stars of the day. Nothing was done. But then he wasnt sued either.

Revie was england manager by all accounts when the initial allegations broke, he was in the Middle East when it was confirmed by numerous people inc alan ball, Frank Mclintock.

No I remember him. Honestly he was an accident waiting to happen. Still better than Dai Dracula mind.

His allegations were pretty much refuted by most, but they are believable. Unfortunately he was desperate for money when he made them to be paid by the daily mirror, so the motivation is questionable. But when you read of Clough’s bungs and brown paper bags full of cash, who knows. Where there’s money, there’s corruption, and I don’t think for one second football is or was anything but a dirty business.. I think Revie got a terrible press, when on ability and Outcomes he’s up there with Shankly. Certainly Keegan thinks so.

Forever known as "Careless Hands" after he threw the ball into in his own net in front of the Kop, in a Liverpool v Leeds match.

The Liverpool DJ put this on at halftime, and Sprake was christened with this name for the rest of his career.

That was incredible. As was his effort to save Houseman’s shot in the cup final. Harvey was a million percent upgrade.

Decent left hook too.
